The final fight scene was filmed outdoors in real snow. Susumu Fujita, fighting barefoot, had to be carried to a bonfire between each shot as his feet would go numb.
Akira Kurosawa had no intention of ever making a sequel to Sanshiro Sugata (1943), but Toho pressured him into it after its great success.
Akira Kurosawa married 'Yoko Yaguchi' 18 days after Sanshiro Sugata, Part Two (1945) premiered, marrying on May 21st, 1945.
