Alec was right: learning can be fun, especially if it’s part of a lighthearted mystery.
The Irrational Season 2 Episode 2 featured one of the series’ most serious cases: a serial killer who was inexplicably going after high-profile victims.
Yet somehow, the stakes didn’t feel as high as they would with more serious police procedurals — and that’s a good thing.
(NBC/James Dittiger) The Irrational Season 2 Episode 2 Offered A Serious, But Convoluted Case
Serial killers have become a tired TV trope.
They raise the stakes to off-the-charts levels, with the detectives having to hurry up and find the killer before the latest victim dies.

The new episode isn’t even here yet, but I can already feel my heart breaking. Let’s get into our Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers.
According to the latest promo, we’re going to be introduced to Chloe next week.
Chloe is, of course, Mika’s 22-year-old sister who just received a devastating cancer diagnosis.
(Disney/Anne Marie Fox) Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers: Another Heartbreaking Cancer Arc
A few things stand out about this storyline.
First, Midori Francis announced before the new season premiered that she would be exiting the Grey’s Anatomy cast.
Naturally, I’m wondering if the writers will use Chloe to explain Yasuda’s decision to leave, or if it will be more complicated than that.
As seen on Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 Episode 17, sometimes cancers can be genetic and affect entire families.
While I really hope this isn’t the case with the Yasuda siblings,...

Brilliant Minds keeps improving weekly by exploring each doctor’s personality, relationships, and unique cases.
In Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 4, Dr. Wolf, Dr. Pierce, Dana, and Van help an amnesiac bride remember her whereabouts and find her missing groom.
Ericka and Jacob spent time with John Doe, hoping that he could stay and avoid long-term care. It surprised everyone what finally triggered a reaction.
(Pief Weyman/NBC)) Dr. Wolf Puts Himself In a Patient’s Shoes
Dr. Wolf has often tried to imagine himself in his patients’ shoes, but he has never done this literally.
It seemed like he almost wanted to try and experience what Van does, to experience what a patient feels.
No one expected the drugs to be laced with Pcp, though, when Dr. Wolf and Dana went to retrace the bride’s footsteps with Dr. Wolf high on drugs.

Sometimes, love isn’t enough.
Yet, that didn’t make Tommy’s arc during 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 4 any easier to swallow.

Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment By 1984, Angela Lansbury had already been on American screens for 40 years, having made her film debut in 1944’s Gaslight, a film for which she earned her first Oscar nomination. As her big screen output began to wane, Lansbury did a lot more theater work, and then started to consider television roles, appearing in several miniseries in the early ’80s. But 1984 brought her the opportunity to do something she’d never done before: take the lead role in a television series. And what a series that turned out to be! Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons and more than 250 episodes, re-establishing Lansbury as a household name. Before she died a few years ago at the age of 96, we had spoken to Lansbury many times about her distinguished career, and she told us why she felt Murder, She Wrote was the perfect thing for her to do at the perfect time.

Denzel Washington has consistently delivered standout performances — including as a director in recent years! — across his decades-long career. He already has two Oscars to his name and could be on his way to a third Academy Award with his role in Ridley Scott‘s “Gladiator II.”
This follow-up to the 2000 Best Picture champ stars Lucius (Paul Mescal) as Lucius, the grandson of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. Lucius is forced into slavery but resolves to fight as a gladiator under the leadership of power broker Macrinus. And that’s where Washington comes in. The titanic Washington plays Macrinus, who is the mentor figure to Lucius and also opposes the rule of emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn).
We are predicting that Washington will be nominated for Best Supporting Actor alongside Samuel L. Jackson (“The Piano Lesson”), Clarence Maclin (“Sing Sing”), Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”), and Stanley Tucci (“Conclave...

Born in Stockholm in 1915, Ingrid Bergman was working in Swedish and German films during the 1930s, when one of her Swedish films, 1936’s “Intermezzo,” caught the eye of powerful Hollywood producer David O. Selznick. He announced that he planned to remake “Intermezzo” in English and would bring Bergman to Hollywood to star. The only problem was that Bergman didn’t speak English, but she turned out to be a fast learner, and the combination of her work ethic and her radiant beauty put Bergman well on her way to becoming an authentic movie star.
Not only did Bergman become an audience favorite, but her acting skills earned her the respect of moviegoers and Hollywood producers alike. In the course of her four-decade film career, Bergman was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning three for “Gaslight,” “Anastasia” and “Murder on the Orient Express”. Tatjana Anders and Kyle James in Your Reality
It’s an old story. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Girl moves in with boy. Boy gradually cuts her off from all her friends, destroys her confidence and makes her feel completely dependent on him so that he can get away with behaving however he likes. Curiously enough, though the phenomenon takes its name from a film (based on a play) – Thorold Dickinson’s 1938 thriller Gaslight, remade in the US by George Cukor six years later – there are relatively few in recent history which have tackled it head on. Tatjana Anders wrote short film Your Reality in an effort to fill the gap.
Directed by Top Tarasin, the film follows Alicia (played by Anders herself), a young woman who stumbles into a relationship with a man who seems to adore her, only to find herself increasingly confused and distressed,...

Ever since Batman evolved as a major superhero in the DC Comics, some elements of the character and its lore have been considered sacred by fans worldwide. Be it his history with the Joker, his ability to integrate technology with his crime-fighting initiatives, and the fact that Batman was raised as an orphan, some elements of Gotham’s caped crusader have remained untouchable.
However, back in the 2018 animated film, Gotham by Gaslight, one iconic figure associated with Batman had a bit of a character breakdown. Set in Victorian-era Gotham City, the character of Gotham’s police commissioner, James Gordon, was revealed as infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper.

This article contains spoilers for Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age.
You know the scene. Jon and Martha Kent are making their way home when a bright light illuminates the night sky and a meteor crashes to the ground. The couple investigate the impact and find not space rock, but a young child.
Superhero fans know this moment well. It’s the turning point where infant Kal-El arrives on Earth from Krypton and begins his journey toward becoming Superman. In Gotham by Gaslight‘s telling, however, the Kents exit not a beat-up truck, but a covered wagon. And they travel not through Kansas but the Kansas Territory—under the watchful eye of Chief Black Condor, leader of the Indigenous sovereigns of the land.
For years, DC Comics‘ Elseworlds line allowed creators to reimagine Superman and Batman in different contexts, leading to classics such as Batman and Dracula: Red Rain and Superman: Red Son.

DC fans are familiar with the Batman: Arkham video game series, but not a lot of people know that a game based on the 2018 animated movie Gotham by Gaslight was initially planned. Day 1 Studios (now known as Wargaming Chicago-Baltimore) was working on the game, and even a clip of the game’s prototype was shared on YouTube 12 years ago. Unfortunately, this project was scrapped and hasn’t been touched since then.
Batman in Gotham by Gaslight (2017)
Gotham by Gaslight is an alternate-reality Batman graphic novel that was published in 1989, featuring an Elseworlds Batman. The game was supposed to feature a steampunk take on Batman’s world and gadgets. The game would’ve been released around 2014-2015, providing stiff to popular action-adventure games of that year like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Sometimes, the video game industry isn’t very kind to titles based on some of the best characters and franchises, like Batman, Star Wars, and others. What happens next is that these projects are announced and revealed but are unfortunately canceled.
Some of these titles were the reason for a lot of hype among gamers. Regardless, fans post about some of these games on social media after their cancellation. And video game studios should reconsider their decision to cancel them.

World War II was still raging in May 1944. The allied invasion of Normandy — aka D-Day — was just around the corner on June 6th. Americans kept the home fires burning and escaped from the global conflict by going to the movies. Two of the biggest films of the year, Leo McCarey’s “Going My Way” and George Cukor’s “Gaslight,” recently celebrated their 80th anniversaries.
Actually, “Going My Way” had a special “Fighting Front” premiere on April 27th: 65 prints were shipped to battle fronts and shown “from Alaska to Italy, and from England to the jungles of Burma.” The sentimental comedy-drama-musical arrived in New York on May 3rd.
And it was just the uplifting film audiences needed. Bing Crosby starred as Father O’Malley, a laid-back young priest who arrives at a debt-ridden New York City church that is run by the older, set-in-his ways Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald). The elder...

Scottish quartet Travis are back with “Raze the Bar,” the latest cut from their forthcoming album L.A. Times. This time, they’ve brought some friends along the way: Coldplay’s Chris Martin and The Killers’ Brandon Flowers.
Evoking a late night pub singalong, “Raze the Bar” is fittingly an ode to the New York City spot The Black and White Bar, which closed during the pandemic. According to Travis songwriter and vocalist Fran Healy, the bar was a mainstay for artists and musicians over the last 30 years: “If you played a show at Irving Plaza or Webster Hall, chances are you ended up at Black and White till the wee small hours,” Healy says in a statement. “One of the owners, Johnny T, looked after so many artists and bands over the years. If that bar could talk, what a story it would tell.”

The DC Animated Universe had a host of versions of Batman strewn across the timeline, but one DC film portrayed the character a little differently than what is usually the tone that is taken for him. Bruce Timm talked to ScienceFiction.com about how he saw Batman, and how one particular film approached the character differently.
Gotham by Gaslight
Gotham by Gaslight is a film that is different than other Batman films, given that the story is set in an Elseworlds, which means it might not necessarily be part of the main Dcau continuity. The film takes Batman and sets him in Victorian London, where the story follows a completely separate trajectory from what is normally expected out of a Batman story.

Written by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, Gotham by Gaslight is considered to be the first DC Elseworlds story, which was lauded following its alternate take on the Batman mythos. Set in the Victorian era, the story follows Batman’s quest to apprehend Jack the Ripper, based on the infamous real-life serial killer, and the story was finally adapted into an animated feature in 2018.
However, the animated feature didn’t see Kevin Conroy return to voice the caped crusader, and per Bruce Timm, it was due to marketing reasons.

The term “gaslighting” has come to describe someone who uses manipulation and lies to gain psychological control; the terminology has gained popularity over the past few years, but its origin dates back nearly 100 years to a British play by Patrick Hamilton, “Gas Light.” In 1940, a British film adaptation was released, and four years after that, MGM produced a version that resulted in the first Oscar victory for a three-time winner, the film debut of a screen legend and a memorable storyline that remains part of our culture eight decades later. On May 4, 1944, “Gaslight” had its premiere, and it remains as haunting and thrilling as ever. Read on for more about the “Gaslight” 80th anniversary.
In “Gaslight,” which is set in 1875, Ingrid Bergman portrays Paula Alquist Anton, an orphan who had been raised by her aunt, a famous and wealthy opera singer, who had been brutally murdered years before by an unknown intruder.

It's well known to fans of "The Wizard of Oz" that actor Ray Bolger was originally cast to play the Tin Man and famed comedian Buddy Ebsen was cast as the Scarecrow. They swapped roles at Bolger's insistence, as Bolger had a personal attachment to the role; he was inspired to become an actor after seeing Vaudevillian Fred Stone play the part on stage when Bolger was a child. Ebsen was fine with changing roles, although he had to drop out of production due to makeup problems. The silvery Tin Man makeup contained powered aluminum and Ebsen breathed in big clouds of it, making him sick. At the time, many merely assumed Ebsen had an allergy. Ebsen was replaced with Jack Haley, and the makeup was altered to be a paste instead of a powder.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress are Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”), Danielle Brooks (“The Color Purple”), America Ferrera (“Barbie”), Jodie Foster (“Nyad”), and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”). Our odds currently indicate that Randolph (3/1) will emerge victorious, followed in order of likelihood by Blunt (4/1), Brooks (4/1), Ferrera (9/2), and Foster (9/2).
The only one of these five actresses with any previous Oscar bids to her name is Foster, who is also this year’s oldest nominee by two full decades. Before she bagged two lead trophies for “The Accused” (1989) and “The Silence of the Lambs” (1992), she broke through at age 14 with a supporting mention for “Taxi Driver” (1977), becoming the seventh youngest Oscar-nominated performer at the time. Since 47 years separate her first and second featured notices, she now holds the record for longest span between consecutive bids in a single acting category.

A new Batman animated film is in the works that introduces a new version of the caped crusader. The film, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios a.k.a The Clash of the Empires, will feature an Aztec Batman who becomes the vigilante after his father dies during a Spanish inquisition. The film will be produced by WB Animation and DC.
Aztec Batman gives a cultural revamp to the characters that appear in the DC comics, taking popular characters such as the Joker and Harvey Dent and adapting them to suit the Aztec culture. While many are excited about this new take on the cape crusader, some fans seem to be taking issue with the change in the character’s original design and characteristics.

“We didn’t need dialogue. We had faces,” proclaimed former silent film queen Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) in Billy Wilder’s 1950 masterwork “Sunset Boulevard.” One of the greatest faces of the era belonged to French actor Albert Dieudonne who starred in Abel Gance’s breathtaking 1927 epic “Napoleon.” With this dark eyes, distinct nose and rock star style hair, Dieudonne channels the infamous French military leader and emperor who conquered most of Europe in the early 19th century until his disastrous 1812 invasion of Russia. Exiled to Elba in 1814, he emerged once again and suffered a massive defeat at Waterloo in 1815. He died in exile six years later at the age of 51.
Dieudonne commands the 5 ½ hour film restored by Kevin Brownlow which features the jaw-dropping triptych finale that is as exciting now as it was 96 years ago. BFI states that the film is “monumental and visionary, the story’s chapters play out...

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
Having written this column for over a year now I am starting to notice some distinctive trends in my monthly activity throughout the year. I had touched on elements of this in previous instalments but in a nutshell the trends can be defined as simply as this:
Busy months – January, March, May, October, November & December Busy days – Monday & Thursday Busiest hours – 6-8am Thursday
It will come as no surprise to regular readers that the busiest hours in the week immediately follow the release of new stock in the store on a Thursday. At a guess I would say that Monday is busy because people casually browse the website...

Gaslight is a 2023 mystery-thriller film, directed by Pavan Kirpalani (Bhoot Police), this somewhat unsettling but intelligently adapted film is diabolic – and it glows on all accounts. It is the atmospheric account of a woman being driven out of her mind. The word ‘Gaslight’ here is symbolically used to describe an attempt to manipulate a person psychologically, thereby, ultimately, making them doubt their own sanity.
At the very onset of the narrative, we are given to understand there has been a murder. The question here is not only a whodunit but why and how? How the sustained mystery unfolds is what keeps you glued to your seat. Actress Chitrangda Singh, who is gearing up for her upcoming streaming film ‘Gaslight, worked extensively on her voice modulation for her part. Taking a different approach, she focused on the bass of her voice rather than the treble.
She worked with acting coach Rupesh to understand thriller as a genre and work on her character development to understand it better.
The actress said: “I handed myself to them (acting coach) to look like Rukmini and sound like her. I worked on my voice so that it didn’t sound happy and got a low base and tone.”
The film, which is a psychological thriller, also stars Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey, Akshay Oberoi and Rahul Dev.
The actress further mentioned: “We worked on it a lot to bring out the authority and mystery in my voice. I have never done this kind of detailed work.”
