Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons and more than 250 episodes, re-establishing Lansbury as a household name. Before she died a few years ago at the age of 96, we had spoken to Lansbury many times about her distinguished career, and she told us why she felt Murder, She Wrote was the perfect thing for her to do at the perfect time.

Ever since Batman evolved as a major superhero in the DC Comics, some elements of the character and its lore have been considered sacred by fans worldwide. Be it his history with the Joker, his ability to integrate technology with his crime-fighting initiatives, and the fact that Batman was raised as an orphan, some elements of Gotham’s caped crusader have remained untouchable.

However, back in the 2018 animated film, Gotham by Gaslight, one iconic figure associated with Batman had a bit of a character breakdown. Set in Victorian-era Gotham City, the character of Gotham’s police commissioner, James Gordon, was revealed as infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper.

You know the scene. Jon and Martha Kent are making their way home when a bright light illuminates the night sky and a meteor crashes to the ground. The couple investigate the impact and find not space rock, but a young child.

Superhero fans know this moment well. It’s the turning point where infant Kal-El arrives on Earth from Krypton and begins his journey toward becoming Superman. In Gotham by Gaslight‘s telling, however, the Kents exit not a beat-up truck, but a covered wagon. And they travel not through Kansas but the Kansas Territory—under the watchful eye of Chief Black Condor, leader of the Indigenous sovereigns of the land.

For years, DC Comics‘ Elseworlds line allowed creators to reimagine Superman and Batman in different contexts, leading to classics such as Batman and Dracula: Red Rain and Superman: Red Son.

DC fans are familiar with the Batman: Arkham video game series, but not a lot of people know that a game based on the 2018 animated movie Gotham by Gaslight was initially planned. Day 1 Studios (now known as Wargaming Chicago-Baltimore) was working on the game, and even a clip of the game’s prototype was shared on YouTube 12 years ago. Unfortunately, this project was scrapped and hasn’t been touched since then.

Gotham by Gaslight is an alternate-reality Batman graphic novel that was published in 1989, featuring an Elseworlds Batman. The game was supposed to feature a steampunk take on Batman’s world and gadgets. The game would’ve been released around 2014-2015, providing stiff to popular action-adventure games of that year like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Some of these titles were the reason for a lot of hype among gamers. Regardless, fans post about some of these games on social media after their cancellation. And video game studios should reconsider their decision to cancel them.

Batman video games aren’t novel by any means. From vintage games on the Nes to the Arkhamverse. However, in the 2000s and the years following, the only significant titles that have come out based on the character have been by Rocksteady and WB Montreal, which have been part of the Arkhamverse.

According to Travis songwriter and vocalist Fran Healy, the bar was a mainstay for artists and musicians over the last 30 years: “If you played a show at Irving Plaza or Webster Hall, chances are you ended up at Black and White till the wee small hours,” Healy says in a statement. “One of the owners, Johnny T, looked after so many artists and bands over the years. Gotham by Gaslight is a film that is different than other Batman films, given that the story is set in an Elseworlds, which means it might not necessarily be part of the main Dcau continuity. The film takes Batman and sets him in Victorian London, where the story follows a completely separate trajectory from what is normally expected out of a Batman story.

Written by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola, Gotham by Gaslight is considered to be the first DC Elseworlds story, which was lauded following its alternate take on the Batman mythos. Set in the Victorian era, the story follows Batman’s quest to apprehend Jack the Ripper, based on the infamous real-life serial killer, and the story was finally adapted into an animated feature in 2018.

However, the animated feature didn’t see Kevin Conroy return to voice the caped crusader, and per Bruce Timm, it was due to marketing reasons.

It's well known to fans of "The Wizard of Oz" that actor Ray Bolger was originally cast to play the Tin Man and famed comedian Buddy Ebsen was cast as the Scarecrow. A new Batman animated film is in the works that introduces a new version of the caped crusader. The film, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios a.k.a The Clash of the Empires, will feature an Aztec Batman who becomes the vigilante after his father dies during a Spanish inquisition. The film will be produced by WB Animation and DC.

Aztec Batman gives a cultural revamp to the characters that appear in the DC comics, taking popular characters such as the Joker and Harvey Dent and adapting them to suit the Aztec culture. A lucky 13 performers have won both Oscars for acting. That is one hell of an exclusive club that even the likes of four-time Best Actress champion Katharine Hepburn and triple Best Actor victor Daniel Day-Lewis didn’t manage to join. Here’s the breakdown of thespians who taken home both lead and supporting Academy Awards in order of their achievement:

Helen Hayes won Best Actress in 1932 for “The Sin of Madelon Claudet.” She won Best Supporting Actress in 1971 for “Airport.” Hayes, who was the first performer to pull off this double feature, had the longest time between wins.

Jack Lemmon won for his supporting turn in “Mister Roberts” in 1956 before he took home Best Actor in 1974 for “Save the Tiger.”

Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s recent release ’12th Fail’ has been submitted to the Oscars as an independent nomination, confirmed the film’s lead actor Vikrant Massey, who plays Ips officer Manoj Kumar Sharma in the movie.

During a media event, Vikrant shared the news and also spoke about his journey in the film industry that started when he was just 15.

Going down memory lane, he spoke about how he had to look out for work since he did not want his college fees to be a burden on his father.

Vikrant started his journey with the television show ‘Dhoom Machao Dhoom’. He was then seen in ‘Balika Vadhu’ and ‘Qubool Hai’.

Appreciating Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan for her performance in the movie ‘Gaslight’, director Pavan Kirpalani said she is an “extremely hungry and dedicated actor who is always willing to take up the challenges”.

In the movie, Sara is playing the role of Meesha, a young paraplegic woman confined to a wheelchair, who returns to her family’s royal palace 15 years after receiving a letter from her father. When she returns to the royal palace, she finds her father missing and is welcomed instead by her stepmother Rukmini, played by Chitrangda Singh.

Actress Chitrangda Singh, who is gearing up for her upcoming streaming film ‘Gaslight, worked extensively on her voice modulation for her part. Taking a different approach, she focused on the bass of her voice rather than the treble.

She worked with acting coach Rupesh to understand thriller as a genre and work on her character development to understand it better.

The actress said: “I handed myself to them (acting coach) to look like Rukmini and sound like her. I worked on my voice so that it didn’t sound happy and got a low base and tone.”

The film, which is a psychological thriller, also stars Sara Ali Khan, Vikrant Massey, Akshay Oberoi and Rahul Dev.

The actress further mentioned: “We worked on it a lot to bring out the authority and mystery in my voice. I have never done this kind of detailed work.”
