Marshal Bat Madison is obviously a reference to iconic Western lawman William Barclay 'Bat' Masterson.
Pickwick, the name given to the decaying mansion, is obviously a satiric reference to Pickfair, the vintage mansion then inhabited by long-retired actress Mary Pickford and her husband Buddy Rogers.
This film's initial telecasts took place in Los Angeles Wednesday 2 March 1949 on KNBH (Channel 4), in Baltimore Saturday 9 July 1949 on WAAM (Channel 13), in Minneapolis-St. Paul Wednesday 21 September 1949 on KSTP (Channel 5), and in Philadelphia Wednesday 30 November 1949 on Frontier Playhouse on WPTZ (Channel 3).
