- Linda Norton is instructed by her employer attorney to take young Bridget Potter, whose wealthy parents are engaged in a divorce suit, to an isolated country resort, to shelter the girl from newspaper reporters and publicity. To the same resort comes Red Reddy, a hope-to-be novelist with plans also of furthering a former brief acquaintance with Linda; Charles Baker, Linda's fiancée; a snooping private detective; and Space O'Shea, who hopes to get a story on Bridget and her divorce-seeking parents. The resort is also host to a convention-meeting of a group of bird lovers headed by the prissy Gibney. The mix gives rise to more than a few situations.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
- The decision of the judge in the high profile custody case of adolescent Bridget Potter is to award temporary custody to Attorney John Markham while Bridget's wealthy divorcing parents can demonstrate that either is a suitable parent. Markham assigns his secretary, Linda Norton, to care for precocious Bridget, Linda who believes hiding out incognito the best plan to evade reporters, her choice being they to act as sisters at currently quiet Mohawk Lake Lodge at this, the end of the season. Complications ensue when another vacationer at Mohawk Lake is Red Reddy, a reporter who recently quit his job, this sojourn so that he could write the great American novel. The problem for Linda is not he being a former reporter even if she knew - which she doesn't - but that he has been obsessed with her ever since he fell in love with her at first sight upon their recent initial encounter, his feelings which didn't/doesn't sit well with Linda's fiancé, Charles Baker. Beyond the exasperation of the staff at the lodge largely in not knowing what is going on, further misadventures occur as more and more people descend on the lodge, including but not limited to Charles who learned that Red was also at the lake, and Red's reporter colleague Space O'Shea who has been covering the Potter story for the newspaper and who got wind that Linda may be at the lodge, the arrival of these people all the while Red, with a little help from Bridget, tries to win Linda's heart.—Huggo
