Quotes

  • Rogers : [Studying a chessboard]  Oh! Oh!

Rogers : Have you found it yet?

Rogers : Yes! No! It all came of having indecently exposed the Queen. Here.

Ronald Petrie : Indecent's the word.

    Rogers : Yes, isn't it.

  • Rogers : Not too late, I hope.

Ronald Petrie : I told you stay home!

Rogers : Not until I give a blow or two.

  • Rogers : Oh, I beg your pardon, I'm intruding.

Sir John Petrie : You want something, Rogers?

Rogers : Oh, no, sir. Well, that is, you see, I blundered.

Sir John Petrie : You what?

Rogers : Well, it's my glasses. I don't see well without them. And I left them in the study when I came in here a few moments ago to get a copy of "Black Beauty." But instead, I got - I got... I've got it.

  • Sir John Petrie : Now what about your private business?

Rogers : Oh. Well, I have a problem, sir.

Sir John Petrie : Oh! By all means, marry the girl.

Rogers : Sir, it's not that sort of a problem.

    [Rogers knocks on wood]

Sir John Petrie : Oh, not that sort? Well, uh, what sort?

Rogers : Well you see, in opening your letters, I try to keep from you advertisements, and that sort of thing...

Sir John Petrie : Quite right.

Rogers : - and... oh. Well, then, I'm justified. Thank you very much.

Sir John Petrie : Well that was easily settled.

Rogers : Oh, well, I wouldn't have bothered you, but you see, this was exceptional.

    Sir John Petrie : Advertisements?

Rogers : Well they must be. They're not letters.

Sir John Petrie : Let me see them.

Rogers : Oh no no no, now I've annoyed you quite enough, and they're all really far too silly.

    Sir John Petrie : Rogers.

[Rogers gives him the papers. All three sheets have a drawing of a Chinese dragon: the first just the image; the second has the phrase "THE GOLDEN DRAGON STIRS IN HIS SLEEP" below the drawing; on the third the text reads, "I WILL FOLLOW ON THE HEELS OF THIS GREETING FU MANCHU"]

Sir John Petrie : These are warnings of death. It's appalling! Why in heaven's name didn't you mention this before?

  • Amah : Hello. Hello, give me Scotland Yard. I - no, no, no, SCOTLAND YARD. What? What's that? Well I have every reason for shouting. The circumstances are distinctly of a shoutable nature. Wha- what's that?... Well my dear young woman, let me tell you a brisk something! If you're going -

[Ah Kee takes the phone from Rogers]

Rogers : Would you please give me Scotland Yard? Thank you.

Amah : Well, wouldn't you have thought that - Was I really shouting?

  • Rogers : Put up your hands!

    [He shoots Lu Chung]

Rogers : Stop, Ling Moy, stop!

    Rogers : I got him!

Ronald Petrie : Good man! Get Sir Basil. I'll take care of her.

Ling Moy : [They exchange a long look]  Let me surrender, in the spirit of the house of Fu.

    [She approaches him]

    Joan Marshall : Ronald!

    Rogers : Joan!

[Ling Moy tries to stab Ronald but is dealt a fatal gunshot by Ah Kee]
