About Prof. Unrat, a respected high school professor, who one day confiscates a postcard showing Lola Fröhlich, the singer/dancer at a local tavern. Visiting the tavern Der Blue Engel to reprimand any students he might find there, the professor falls under the spell of Lola Fröhlich. Soon he is completely lost. A live theatre performance recorded at Theater des Westens.

At the twilight of the Jazz Age in Berlin, the incipient Nazi Party is growing stronger. The Kit Kat Klub is a seedy cabaret-a place of decadent celebration. The club's Master of Ceremonies together with the cabaret girls and waiters, warm up the audience, before introducing the English chanteuse, Sally Bowles.
