- In the early 1810s, Poles, part of Russia's client state of Lithuania, think independence will come if they join forces with Napoleon when he invades Russia. This unity of purpose, in one district, is undermined by two families, feuding since the head of one shot the head of the other twenty years before. There are hopes of a reconciliation through a marriage of Pan Tadeusz, a Soplica, whose father, the murderer, is in hiding somewhere, and Zosia, a teen-aged girl, a Horeszko who lives in the household of Pan's uncle. Other cross-currents - of love, family, politics, village traditions, land reform, and what it means to be Polish - give the film texture. It's an exile's story.
- A capable, though not flawless, Commissioner Olgierd Halski wages a relentless fight with the Warsaw gangster underground. He tracks drug dealers and fights groups who are terrorising Warsaw Old Town restaurateurs. Finally, when the Russian mafia enters the criminal scene, he declares a war on it all. Consequences of the Commissioner's actions, become a danger to his personal life, in a matter of time. The beautiful and ruthless Nadezhda does everything she can to thwart Halski's unconventional, intersecting plans. However, to no avail. Drugs smuggled by the mafia are on fire. Thus, the evidence of effective police action is also disappearing. Halski, dismissed from work, appears in the ranks of the Government Protection Bureau. He quickly discovers a gigantic corruption scandal involving prominent public figures. His relatives are again in danger.
- Michal Toporny is a poor country boy whose determination and hard work help him climb the social ladder and become the head of a large factory in the city. But at what cost?
- The action of the series lasts exactly one hundred years. From New Year's Eve 1900 to New Year's Eve 2000. Each episode is a separate story telling about a move and an item lost during it. The only link between the individual parts is the Szczygla family, which runs a company that transports the belongings of people changing apartments.
