During the 2010 season of American Idol, Tim Urban emerged on the national music scene with a blend of his smooth vocals, all American charm and trademark smile. His talent, determination and upbeat attitude won the hearts of fans all over the world and earned him the number seven slot in the competition as well as the chance to perform on the AI 2010 summer concert tour.
Tim's journey towards a music career began with his birth in May of 1989 in Washington State. A family move when he was six brought Tim to Duncanville, Texas where he spent the next fourteen years. Several members of Tim's large family play instruments and he first picked up his dad's guitar when he was thirteen. His musical style was influenced by such musicians as Jim Croce, John Denver, One Republic, Dave Matthews, Frank Sinatra, U2, James Taylor, Michael Buble, Coldplay and Matt Nathanson. He continued to develop his love for music throughout high school, performing in various musical theater productions and playing at local music venues. Tim also discovered his talent for song writing during this time. He recorded his first CD of original music called Run Away in 2008. Before he auditioned for American Idol, Tim was playing the local music circuit and pursuing a career in entertainment through a Christian talent organization, Actors, Models and Talent for Christ (AMTC). Tim's Christian faith has had a profound impact on his life and music. His song "Lullaby" was written for orphans he met while on a humanitarian trip to South Africa in 2007.
Since finishing the American Idol 2010 concert tour, Tim has continued to press forward with his career as a recording artist. An avid song writer, Tim immediately set to work composing and recording his own material for an. He released his new EP Heart of Me on November 8, 2010 through iTunes. The six-song EP includes "Heart of Me," "Lullaby," "Wheels Touch Down," "P.S.," "I and You," and "Blur." Tim moved from Texas to L.A. in early 2011 to pursue singing and acting opportunities. He is working on a full length album with multiple award winning producers and writers. One of his new songs "Sooner or Later" was featured on the CBS special "Eco Hollywood" which aired May 26th in Los Angeles.
Along with music, acting has become a passion for Tim. Since Ellen mentioned that Tim should be on the Fox show Glee, there have been numerous opportunities opened for him to pursue this avenue of entertainment. He filmed a sizzle reel with Howie Dorough from the Backstreet Boys. Tim is also in talks with several producers, directors and studios about other projects in both television and film.
With the many projects and performances in front of him, Tim has made it a priority to be involved with Nonprofit organizations such as, IJM (International Justice Mission), and Generosity Water. He wants to make sure that in the midst of a rising career he doesn't forget where he came from and what's really important.
