To me, this is one of the worst episodes of Bones. I do not care about the rest of the plot, but firing the intern because of a series of mistakes on her first chance to work with the team? Initially I thought, the conclusion of this episode would show some humbleness on Bones side. But no. Just like that out of the door goodbye, you suck.
Bones as a person has so many flaws, and especially flaws that make her entirely inadequate for most aspects of her professional life except the science. With no social skills whatsoever, she should have been fired so often for serious misbehaviour, overstepping her competence, publicly blurting out accusations that in the end had no ground. But no.
All of her missteps end with "I see this now ... I should not have ... " and three episodes further on we see her do exactly the same kind of mess and socially inadequate behaviour again.
And let's be honest, especially with American standards for squeezing money out of situations, many of the wrongly accused could get back at her legally for her terrible behaviour and would win unless the system does not work (eh Booth, ehhh ?). And the Jeffersonian would have to pay big time or FIRE HER. But it makes a good story.
And it probably caters a lot of people to see the weak, non-brilliant, who has a dream and works hard for it get dismissed just the way Sammy was. If you see somebody struggle, you move them into a supporting role, have them observe, do more homework. You can eventual dismiss them entirely, if there is no drive to get better, but you need to give them time. And inviting an intern that clearly is not yet ready for the "stage" to be primary assistant is just unprofessional to begin with.
The series tries to be strong on moral - but is actually super arrogant, stereotypical and fails big time. It started good but ... fell flat towards the end.
