Frankenstein Created Woman is the fourth film in the classic Hammer Frankenstein series. According to the audio commentary on the Shout Factory Blu Ray release it is regarded as "a dark fairy tale for adults". They also draw some parallels to Cinderella to hammer( no pun intended) that point. This film has less to do with Victor Frankenstein and more to do with the tragic love story of a disfigured woman and her boyfriend. Stealing the thunder from Peter Cushing is not easy and these young actors did a fantastic job. The score is fantastic and the film looks great to boot. The film is heavy with subtext and is ahead of it's time in many different aspects. Frankenstein Created Woman is very much the thinking man's horror movie ( or woman, expect a little gender bending). However, it doesn't mean it won't deliver on lush visuals, Gothic atmosphere and big breasted women that are expected from a Hammer horror production. Terance Fisher is the best director to work at Hammer and every movie he works on is special and outstanding in every possible way. Frankenstein Created Woman is mostly a bloodless film, but it still is quite violent, dark and twisted for a movie of this period. Overall, this is a great movie and one I highly recommend and enjoy.
