There is much to hold the viewers attention in this film. The character development, the clear progression of the plot, the wonderfully old house the film is set in, and humorous people. Some of the script, delivered dead-pan made me laugh out loud, such as "I won't let the Encylopeadia Britanica dictate my actions!" Or "He kissed me!" "What's wrong with that?" "He didn't remove his cigarette!".
I'm somewhat disappointed by the very end where the bride to be is audibly beaten into submission by her fiancé because she needs a 'stern hand', whilst ma & pa listen on, smiling. It ruined an otherwise 'good old film' for me.
