I did not live in the 70's and I really do not care if things were like this or not. This is a TV series (fiction!), and a VERY GOOD one
. The series goes far beyond sex and drugs. It talks about relationships, connections, choices and the consequences of these choices. The dialogs are intelligent and fun. The series is well directed. The actors are great and the music is fantastic. The series does use the 70's and its contrasts as a background, but it does not attempt to describe the life of every individual living in Chicago at time. Do not take it personally just enjoy it as any other TV series.
It is definitely worth breaking the prejudices and giving it a try. I am sure you are going to love it!
