It looks like Sachin Pilgaonkar forgot his own formula of film making.
Spoilers ahead, don't read if you haven't watched the movie. Which I won't recommend you watching.
In the past, he had a formula, the main characters had to lie about something to villain or supporting characters, and the comedy came from them hiding the truth. Also the danger of the truth coming out had real stakes. Like in Ashi Hi banva banvi, they would lose the house and go to jail, in Mazha Pati Crorepati, the girl will lose her love interest and his wealth if the truth comes out, and in Navra Mazha Navsacha (2004) he would lose his wife's trust if she finds out about the fake statue trick.
But in here, the vow doesn't offer much of the conflict that is needed, because the characters don't have to hide anything from people, also the other passangers don't really care about the statue. The vow gets completed with heights of co incidences one by one. In the original movie Vacky puts a lot of efforts for keeping the diamonds away from the main villian thus getting rewarded by the cops. But here, he and his family don't put any effort to bring down the bad guy, but still get rewarded. Which feels completely unearned.
The attempts at comedy looks extremely forced and sometimes disgusting. There are zero stakes for the characters in the plot, because of which the movie loses steam and engagement. The climax looks extremely stupid, the first movie has brilliant scenes in the climax. Actors like Ashok Saraf, Vijay Patkar, Swapnil Joshi are completely wasted, since they have a lot of potential. Whereas Siddharth Jadhav is irritating. But that can be said about basically every actor, othe than the four leads.
In many interviews Sachin said that this movie's idea came to him from Ganpati Bappa. But after watching the movie I doubt his intentions. It looks more like a cash grab, due to current "nostalgia wave" that is going on in every major movie industry.
The movie although marketed as a "comedy", lacks in every department, especially music. The original movie had bangers after banger songs, hirva nisarga, chala na gade, chala jezurila zau. When you watch any song in this movie, you desperately want it to be over.
