Review of Harlow

Harlow (I) (1965)
Beautiful, blonde, buxom Jean Harlow goes to Hollywood in the 1930's and becomes a major movie star. But success at such a young age has its price.

Of the two bio-pics about legendary sex goddess Jean Harlow released in 1965, this is definetely the better one, though neither film is exactly what you'd call a cinematic landmark. Carroll Baker is indeed a lovely and really very talented woman, but try as she might, Baker never fully manages to capture the spirit and warmth of the original Harlow, not that any other actress could do any better. Still, the excellent photography and convincing recreations of the 1930's Hollywood setting make it an enjoyable film to look at it. Acting-wise, Angela Lansbury and Raf Vallone come off best as Harlow's mother and stepfather.
