Kafka's voice actor Masaya Fukunishi recently arrived in Los Angeles for Anime Expo 2024 to talk about the latest Kaiju No. 8 anime series, letting fans in on the inside scoop of the latest Shonen Jump+ anime adaptation. Crunchyroll News had a chance to sit down with Fukunishi at the con to talk about how he got the lead role, how he "surfs" between the series' light and dark moments, and how staying in tune with the fans' creativity helps bring that back into his performance. Popular anime series “Kaiju No. 8” may have just concluded its inaugural season on Crunchyroll, and the streaming service announced over the weekend that production is already underway on a sequel season.

Crunchyroll will broadcast the series’ return in 200 territitories and countries worldwide, with broadcast information Tba.

Production I.G (Psycho-Pass; Ghost in the Shell) animates the series, with kaiju artwork and design supervision by Studio Khara (Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition, Shin Godzilla (Pre Visualization Development)). The anime is adapted from the original manga created by Naoya Matsumoto.

Kaiju No. 8 made its anime debut in April 2024, receiving an overwhelmingly positive response. From the plot, direction, and animation to the voice acting, fans could hardly nitpick any faults.

The voice actors who attended the show were the voice actors of Kafka Haibino (Masaya Fukunishi), Ashiro Mina ( Asami Seto), Reno Ichikawa(Wataru Katō), Kikoru Shinomiya (Fairouz Ai), and Socshiro Hoshina (Kengo Kawanishi).

With the anime adaptation coming out on the 14th of next month, creator Naoya Matsumoto reveals he has been following the production on every step. Kaiju No.8, the shonen manga focusing on Kaijuu, mythical monsters originating from Japan, started releasing chapters in July 2020 and is still ongoing.

It follows the story of Kafka Hibino, a middle-aged man working as a cleaning operative, who dreams of becoming a soldier fighting Kaijuu, appearing in Japan, because of a promise he made to his childhood friend. The anime adaptation was announced last year in August, with Ig Production taking up the project.

The official website of the upcoming Kaiju No. 8 anime revealed a new promo video previewing the opening and ending theme songs on Feb 29, 2024.

British singer Yungblud will perform the opening theme song “Abyss,” while American pop rock band OneRepublic will perform the ending theme song “Nobody”.

Kaiju No. 8 will start airing on April 13, 2024.

It’s been a massive day for Kaiju TV series. At New York Comic Con today, Crunchyroll unleashed a new trailer to accompany the announcement that new anime series “Kaiju No. 8” will head to its streaming service in Spring 2024, subtitled and dubbed, exclusively in more than 200 countries and territories, simulcast weekly after its broadcast in Japan.

The new trailer below brings big monster mayhem and gore, showcasing the perils of living in a world filled with giant monsters.

The highly anticipated anime series, based on the manga, is centered around “a group of characters living in a world where giant monsters (or kaiju) attack humanity and the creatures’ destructive aftermath. Kaiju is a Japanese term that is commonly associated with television, movies, and books involving giant monsters (usually depicted attacking major cities and battling the military or other monsters), which has been a science fiction mainstay in the media for decades.

Crunchyroll has acquired the monster sci-fi and fantasy anime series “Kaiju No. 8,” with the show set to debut on the streamer in spring 2024.

The anime comes as an adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto’s original manga series of the same name. “Kaiju No. 8” will be animated by Production I.G. (“Psycho-Pass”) and its artwork and design supervision will be done by Studio Khara (“Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition”). The show will hit Crunchyroll with both subbed and dubbed versions, and will simulcast weekly after it airs in Japan.
