Simona Calo is a screenwriter and director captivated by the power of storytelling and film. Born in Italy and now living in England. Her most recent work is the Oscar-qualifying animated short, "The Good Dads," a poignant drama about a single mother's struggle to find a father figure for her autistic son after being abandoned by her husband.
Her upcoming docufilm, "Eyes Everywhere", features Christopher Lambert, Fortunato Cerlino, and Francesca Inaudi, and explores the future of Society 5.0, where technology helps bring humanity back to the center.
Simona's previous projects include "Connected: The New Post-Human Species", a feature docudrama available on Prime Video and Apple TV in 74 countries, which delves into the mysterious world of artificial intelligence.
She also directed "DAY 4", a short film examining the complex relationship between a mother and her son, conceived under traumatic circumstances.
Her documentary "Vicolo degli onesti" (Honest Men's Alley) sheds light on medical malpractice in Italy, with insights from Piero Chiambretti, Gherardo Colombo, and Antonello Soro.
During the pandemic, she directed "The New Normal", filmed entirely during lockdown. The actors, based in different countries, never met or talked to each other demonstrating how technology connects people across borders.
In 2019, she addressed the issue of youth violence and bullying with "Hasty Decisions" and in 2017, she directed "Ovunque ma non qui" (Anywhere but here), a story about violence against women. Her earlier work, "E poi la fine" (And Then the End Shall Be), focused on the Italian painter Dario Chiericallo.
Simona's work has been recognized internationally, with over 20 nominations and 15 wins at film festivals, including reaching the semi-finals at the 2018 Golden Plume competition in Cannes for the screenplay "The Dark Side of the Law".
She's currently working on a feature film, A Glass Door, a drama about a woman haunted by trauma who navigates strained relationships with her parents and seeks a fresh start, hoping to heal while confronting the past that refuses to fade.
