Joely Olivia Powell was born and raised in Auburn, California. She's been a writer as long as she can remember, and has always been a lover of filmmaking. She cites directors Danny Boyle and Barry Jenkins as inspirations in directing and film aesthetics. She began writing her first feature film "Inspirit" at age fourteen, and has been screenwriting ever since.
