Kato Alexander is a Toronto based filmmaker who recently created the short film "Happy," which focuses on the black/gay narrative through a psychological thriller and horror lens. The title is an ironic twist on the themes of depression and attempted suicide. He is a multidisciplinary artist (Writer, Director, Producer, Actor) with a goal of crafting genre-based films that not only entertain but also challenge societal norms and provoke thought. He is the recipient of the 2023 Canada Council for the Arts' Concept to Realization grant, which helped launch this project into production.
As a screenwriter his debut feature film titled "Life Line," is in development. It's a Sci-Fi, Myth, Epic film set in the dystopian year of 2135. An otherworldly project that will utilize the most advanced technology that we have today including Unreal Engine, Virtual production, and LED volumes. He aims to create worlds that feel both fantastical and familiar, inviting audiences to explore new realms while connecting with universal themes. By infusing his storytelling with authenticity and innovation, he strives to pave the way for greater inclusivity and representation in cinema.
As an Actor, Kato has over a decade of on-camera experience working in the various mediums of Film/TV, Voice Over, and Motion Capture. He is a Second City Improv Alumni (Toronto) and a 2019 Graduate from the IFA program. He recently played the Supporting Lead role of Marvin in "Picture Perfect Romance" (Super Channel). His passion for voice work has garnered him experience in animation, and the Sci-Fi audio drama "Earth Eclipsed" which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021 (New York City). Trained in motion capture and vocal combat, he recently voiced the Lead role in a highly anticipated, undisclosed Triple-A video game set to release in 2024.
