Richard K Simpson
- Production Designer
- Actor
- Art Director
In 2015 Richard was asked by director Neill Blomkamp to join OATS Studios as the in house Production Designer. This lead to working with Neill for six years on more than a dozen projects all over the world.
Where Richard's love for films began was when a tiny little film called Star Wars cracked his head open and was like hi octane gasoline for his imagination. As Richard got a little older his love for science fiction and fantasy films grew. Magazines such as Fangoria, Starlog and Heavy Metal were also thrown into the inspiration engine. He built props and costumes from whatever materials he could get his hands on, and his passion for creation began to take shape.
In his early twenties Richard began his career in set construction honing the skills of set building, scenic painting, prop building and model making. After a few years he moved onward into the world of advertising where he worked on set as a props master, set dresser, set decorator and spfx. Combining his creative experience with love of design and working within a team environment, Richard moved into Art Direction and Production design where for the past twenty plus years he has worked on hundreds of television commercials.
After two decades in the commercial world Richard made the move over to feature films.
