Exclusive: America’s Got Talent is losing one of its longest-tenured talents.

Jason Raff, who has served as showrunner of the long-running NBC hit for 19 seasons, has left the show.

After 482 original episodes including 140 hours of live episodes, Raff told Deadline that he was informed that he was being let go the day after season 19 finished at the end of September due to budget cuts.

Raff also developed and served as showrunner for all of the show’s spinoffs including America’s Got Talent: The Champions, AGT: Extreme, America’s Got Talent: All-Stars and America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.

Sam Donnelly, who has served as showrunner alongside Raff, will continue as solo showrunner on Season 20 show, which is produced by Fremantle and Syco Entertainment, and will likely air in May 2025.

Raff told Deadline that nearly 20 years ago, he was handed a DVD of a presentation for British broadcaster ITV called Paul’s O’Grady’s Got Talent.

Megalopolis has been generating headlines for years. First, it was about how legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola had to self-finance his epic sci-fi movie because no studio was willing to touch it.

Then, we heard the director had reportedly fired the majority of the Megalopolis' visual effects team during production, prompting other crew members, including the entire art department, to exit due to what they called an "unstable filming environment."

More recently, Coppola has been accused of acting inappropriately on set, though it's unclear whether there's any truth to the allegations.

Then there was the trailer with AI-generated quotes from "critics" and Megalopolis' 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes which suggested Coppola's supposed magnum opus was anything but the masterpiece he'd promised.

With the movie now playing in theaters, regular moviegoers have chimed in...and wholly rejected Megalopolis. Boasting a D+ CinemaScore, it ranks among the worst-rated wide releases ever and scores lower than any superhero movie.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s new film “The Wild Robot” is booting up with a better-than-expected $34 million opening weekend.

Director Chris Sanders’ animated film was originally projected to make between $24 million to $30 million in its opening weekend. The family friendly movie launched with $11.3 million on Friday and will take the box office crown from Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Tim Burton’s horror comedy has reigned over the charts for the past three weeks and is on track for second place with $16 million in its fourth week of release.

Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” is finally hitting theaters this weekend after premiering over the summer at the Cannes Film Festival. However, it’s on track to make $4.6 million in its opening weekend, less than initial projections of $5 million to $7 million. It’s made $1.84 million so far from 1,854 North American theaters. The film carries a $120 million budget, which was mostly self-financed by Coppola.

Francis Ford Coppola’s next epic is here, and he’s amassed a pretty huge cast to bring it to life. And odds are, you’re going to recognize quite a few of those faces.

Now in theaters, “Megalopolis” is a modern retelling of the Roman Empire, starring Adam Driver as the man who’s trying to build it. Cesar Catalina (Driver) has a vision for a utopia built with a brand new element that he discovered and won a Nobel prize for. But not everyone wants to see him succeed in doing so.

Director Francis Ford Coppola reputedly spent 40 years making Megalopolis, raising the $120m budget by selling some of his vineyards. Sadly, both time and money could probably have been better spent elsewhere, because the end result falls squarely in the “interesting failure” camp, rather than being the epic masterpiece he undoubtedly envisioned. Still, it’s not without its moments.

The film takes place in New Rome, effectively an alternate version of New York City. Adam Driver plays genius architect Cesar Catilina, who can seemingly halt the flow of time and who has invented a miracle building material known as Megalon, with which he plans to construct a futuristic cityscape.

“The Wild Robot,” Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s latest family-friendly, animated adventure, has made $1.95 million in Thursday previews at the box office so far.

Director Chris Sanders’ movie, about a lost robot on a planet overrun by wildlife, is on track to make between $24 million to $30 million in its opening weekend. That should be enough to claim the top slot from Warner Bros.’ spooky sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which has been the No. 1 movie for the past three weeks. Tim Burton’s film should take second place in its frame week of release, with an estimated $13 million to $15 million this weekend. Last week’s newcomer, Paramount’s animated origin story “Transformers One,” will have to settle for third place, with a projected $12 million to $14 million after opening in second place last weekend.

“The Wild Robot” stars Lupita Nyong’o as the titular automaton, who is named Rozzum unit 7134 but better known as Roz.

Megalopolis was a result of Francis Ford Coppola’s unrelenting spirit and hard work. For several years, the critically acclaimed filmmaker tried his best to convince Hollywood to help him work on this masterpiece, but he was met with a series of setbacks that held him away from making this movie for nearly four decades!

Review: One of the most unique things about Francis Ford Coppola as a director is the fact that he’s probably the only one I can think of who’s made at least four outright masterpieces and probably an equal number of disasters. For every Godfather, there’s a One from the Heart, but Coppola, to his credit, has never allowed critics or audiences to dictate the movies he makes, and for better or worse, this is exactly the film he wanted. Whether or not anyone else will understand or appreciate what he’s doing is another question. I must admit that even though I can find merit in almost all of his work, Megalopolis escaped me.

Lionsgate quickly seeks to rectify their controversial marketing blunder from a couple of weeks ago. The upcoming epic fantasy film from Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis, is certainly building an interesting buzz. Coppola, a filmmaker with an outside-the-box vision, made a film that studios couldn’t figure out how to promote to a mainstream audience. Lionsgate got the distribution deal and attempted to stay ahead of the negative word-of-mouth by releasing a trailer that featured alleged harsh quotes from critics when Coppola’s beloved past films had come out.

The studio was quickly called out for manifesting these quotes used in the trailer an pulled it from their official outlets. Lionsgate would also issue an apology. “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis,” said a Lionsgate spokesperson. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process.

“Megalopolis” just might be the film with the biggest hype and mystery this fall season…

After debuting at Cannes, the self-funded feature from auteur Francis Ford Coppola has had quite the media frenzy. First, the film was plagued by rumors of a chaotic set. Then, Coppola was accused of kissing extras against their will. Coppola has denied both allegations.

And then the first trailer that was released to promote the film included fake quotes from iconic critics seemingly created by an AI chatbot. Distributor Lionsgate issued an apology, telling IndieWire, “we screwed up.”

Now, we’re getting a new and fully sanctioned look at “Megalopolis.”

A new trailer for “Megalopolis” has arrived, and this time, they aren’t using any fake quotes from critics.

It comes in the wake of Lionsgate recalling its previous trailer, after the footage featured apparent quotes from negative reviews of previous Coppola films heralded as masterpieces, like “Apocalypse Now” and “The Godfather.” But as it turned out, those harsh words — used in an apparent attempt to turn the divided response to “Megalopolis” from a bug into a feature — weren’t real.

“Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for ‘Megalopolis,’” a Lionsgate spokesman told TheWrap after the company pulled the trailer down. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”

They say no publicity is bad publicity, but the sheer amount of negative press that's been generated by legendary director Francis Ford Coppola's sci-fi epic, Megalopolis, in the build-up to its release might put that theory to the test!

There were already stories about behind-the-scenes turmoil during the production of the $120 million+ movie, and following a decidedly mixed reception after its Cannes premiere, more reports of Coppola's troubling on-set behaviour emerged.

Among other things, it's said that the director chose to sit in his trailer smoking weed for hours on end while the cast and crew were waiting to film. He has also been accused of pulling scantily clad or naked female extras onto his lap and attempting to kiss them to "get them in the mood" (recent BTS footage would seem to back this up).

Megalopolis filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola said the upcoming epic purposefully cast actors who were “canceled” because he didn’t want his film to be written off as “some woke Hollywood production.”

Though the road to the film’s Sept. 27 release by Lionsgate has not been estranged from controversy — from divisive critical opinion at the Cannes premiere in May to reports of on-set departmental disagreements — Coppola told Rolling Stone in a new interview that he hopes it will commence a conversation.

“What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production that’s simply lecturing viewers,” the Apocalypse Now director said. “The cast features people who were canceled at one point or another. Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis, is set to hit theaters in a matter of weeks and part of the distribution deal of his self-financed film included that he would also take control of marketing. According to World of Reel, the Godfather director has hired the company Utopia to help him out and is said they were told to “implement specialty marketing, word-of-mouth, and non-traditional theatrical distribution initiatives targeting moviegoers.”

This eccentric brand of viral marketing has started to form on social media as the official film’s account amusingly inquired if they could quote a user’s bewildered comment as part of the marketing of the film.

Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed sci-fi epic will be distributed in the U.S. and Canada by Lionsgate, the studio announced on Monday. The film will be released in theaters and IMAX on Sept. 27.

The deal brings Coppola’s protracted search for a U.S. distributor for his passion project to a close. The legendary director privately screened the large-scale art film for studio chiefs in March and didn’t secure a distribution commitment at the time. The film premiered at Cannes in May, and while international distributors snapped it up, a U.S. deal remained elusive. But now, Lionsgate, which has a long history of distributing indies the Big Five studios wouldn’t touch going back to “American Psycho,” has signed on.

Lionsgate will be releasing Francis Ford Coppola’s $120M epic production Megalopolis stateside on Sept. 27 following its premiere at Cannes last month. This will be a wide release.

Deadline hears this is a distribution deal for Lionsgate. Coppola will own the movie, which is the case for many of his films under his American Zoetrope banner.

Lionsgate already has a theatrical release on that date, the Halle Berry horror movie Never Let Go. Universal has the DreamWorks Animation title The Wild Robot and Paramount the tenth anniversary re-release of the Christopher Nolan Warner Bros co-production Interstellar.
