Berle has been an athlete all of his life, and he remains in great shape today. Berle was born in North Carolina, and moved with his family in 1968 to Charleston, South Carolina, due to his father's career with the USAF (United States Air Force). His father received a "Presidential Award", which was presented to him by Vice President Dan Quayle.
In 1972, Berle graduated from Bonds-Wilson High School in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was a three (3) sport athlete. He then attended the University of South Carolina (USC), where he was a two (2) sport and a scholar athlete, on the Dean's List, and a member of the accounting fraternity Beta Alpha Psi. In 1975, Berle received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting from USC, and a Master's of Accountancy in 1977.
