Media Asia Distribution has sealed a string of sales during the European Film Market (EFM) and Filmart period, including a North American deal on Cai Cong’s historical action title God Of War 2, which has gone to Well Go USA.

The Hong Kong-based studio has also sold three titles to Musahino in Japan – omnibus Septet: The Story Of Hong Kong, Heiward Mak’s Fagara and Patrick Kong’s The Calling Of A Bus Driver.

Hong Kong-based Media Asia is lining up a second omnibus project looking back at the history of Hong Kong, entitled Septette: More Stories Of Hong Kong, with the focus on emerging rather than veteran filmmakers.

Last year, Media Asia’s Septet: The Story Of Hong Kong, which was selected for the Cannes 2020 Label, featured seven short films from directors such as Ann Hui, Johnnie To, Tsui Hark and Patrick Tam. The film, which To produced, also screened as the opening film of Busan International Film Festival and played in the Limelight section of Rotterdam.

“The Diam Diam Era Too,” the sequel to current release “The Diam Diam Era” by Singapore superstar Jack Neo, and period thriller “Precious is the Night” are among the upcoming releases from regional mini-conglomerate MM2 Entertainment.

The company revealed a host of titles for 2020-21 release at the ongoing Asian Television Forum, which is part of the Singapore Media Festival.

The “Diam Diam” films continue the story of Neo’s 2016 two-parter “Long Long Time Ago” that followed the Lim family against the backdrop of Singapore’s nation-building policies. “The Diam Diam Era Too” is set for a Lunar New Year release in early 2021. The cast includes Richie Koh, Danny Lee and Mark Lee.

Gavin Lin’s romantic drama A Trip With Your Wife will be co-produced by Fox Networks Groups Asia.

Riding high on the phenomenal success of More Than Blue, Singapore’s mm2 Entertainment is teaming up again with the hit film’s Taiwanese director Gavin Lin on A Trip With Your Wife. Fox Networks Group Asia is on board to co-produce.

The romantic drama, written by More Than Blue co-writer Hermes Lu, follows a terminally-ill young man whose dying wish is to take the wife of his best friend on a trip. The project is currently at script stage with the cast to be confirmed.

Corporate Espionage is, in this day and age, very much a real threat. Director Amos Why, in his sophomore feature “Napping Kid”, tries to convince us that corporate kidnapping is as well. Based on a novel of the same name by Hong Kong/Canadian author Mannshin, “Napping Kid” is a timely film that shows us just how much is at stake with digital files, while offering a look at the current state of Hong Kong society.

Exclusive: Martial arts drama has been picked up by Hong Kong outfit Golden Scene.

Hong Kong’s Golden Scene has picked up international rights to martial arts drama The Empty Hands, directed by and starring Chapman To [pictured].

Produced by To and Tang Wai But, the film tells the story of a young girl whose only wish is to sell her father’s karate dojo when he dies, but discovers that 51% of the business was left to one of his worst pupils.

Currently in post-production, the film is scripted by To and Erica Li. To also stars with Stephy Tang, Yasuaki Kurata and Stephen Au.

Golden Scene is also selling Amos Why’s second feature, Napping Kid, basedon Mann Shin’s novel about the kidnapping of a confidential computer file. Currently in post-production, the film stars Cecilia So, Ng Siu Hin, David Siu and Candy Cheung.
