Cross premiered Nov. 14 on Prime Video. The streamer’s new detective thriller is based on James Patterson’s best-selling series of novels about a Washington, D.C. detective/forensic psychologist. Aldis Hodge stars in the title role in the fast-paced, twisty series.
Over the show’s eight episodes, Alex Cross faced personal and professional challenges as he attempted to untangle a series of baffling crimes, several of which hit uncomfortably close to home. First, there was a series of disturbing crimes committed by a murderer determined to pay homage to some of history’s most notorious serial killers. At the same time, Cross was also coping with the seemingly random murder of Maria, his wife and the mother of two children. But it eventually emerged that someone was specifically targeting Cross and his family. That person’s identity was revealed in the finale, and to say it was a shock would be an understatement.

There was a lot going on in the eight episodes of Cross season 1. None of the episodes disappointed, and neither did the outcomes of the storylines.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Cross season 1.
The first season brought us two murders/cases to get to the bottom of. The first was the murder of Alex Cross’s wife. The second was figuring out who the Fanboy Killer was.

By the halfway mark, Alex had already worked out who the Fanboy Killer was. He knew it was Ryan Eggold’s Ramsey, but he couldn’t prove it. As he would get closer, Ramsey would be steps ahead of it. Because of Ramsey, Cross lost his badge and reputation. That didn’t stop him from searching,...

A beautiful tribute is happening on Days of Our Lives, blurring the line between art and real life.
In 1970, the characters of Julie Olson and Doug Williams met on the long-running soap series, played by Susan Seaforth and Bill Hayes. The two met in real-life and fell in love, resulting in a marriage lasting 50 years, until his death earlier this year.
Now, Susan is paying tribute to her late love, in real life and on the series.

“Being without Bill is quite a change,” she said in an interview with Variety.
“I really appreciate what the producers have done to honor him — to allow me to give pretty much the same eulogy [on the show for Doug] that I gave [Bill] at our church. I certainly didn’t expect that. He deserved to be lifted up, and I was so, so pleased that [his death] wasn’t just passed over as something that happened off stage.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Susan broke her silence on Bill’s passing last week with a thank you to those who have paid tribute to her husband.
There’s no question that Susan has been a focus for her Days colleges and fans after Bill’s death.
Deidre has shed more light on her friendship with the couple as well as the dynamic duo that was Bill and Susan.
The talented actress used Instagram to share a throwback photo of her and Bill at the Emmys. She also included a picture from the Days of our Lives Christmas episode featuring the hanging of the Horton family Christmas ornaments.

We must've been on the "Nice" list.
If there was ever any wonder of what Christmas would be like in Virgin River, then Virgin River Season 5 Part 2 delivered some sugar, spice, everything nice, and a dash of drama.
Virgin River is the perfect series to capture the Hallmark Christmas movie vibes. For the most part, they leaned heavily into some tooth-achingly sweet moments, Christmas festivities, and a strong sense of community and family.
We even got a few Christmas miracles thrown into the mix, from Mel coming face-to-face with her biological father and Charmaine's twins Finally being born.
The two-hour holiday event worked as far as slotting between seasons despite serving as the last installments for Virgin River Season 5.
It delivered on some of the questions that lingered after Virgin River Season 5 Episode 10, namely, focusing exclusively on the quest to find Mel's father.
However, it also unearthed a whole...

Combining Irish music, charisma, and a ghost's unfinished business made it feel like Fall.
Many ghosts have unfinished business. It's a well-known trope in murder mysteries, and Haunted Harmony Mysteries: Murder in G Major expanded on it with detailed characters and picturesque Irish charm.
I was as captivated by the Irish scenery and music as I was trying to solve the mystery, and I love murder mysteries.
Tamera Mowry-Housley was delightful as the lead character, a former orchestra conductor Gethsemane Brown. She's easily charmed by Ireland and the tales surrounding Orla and Eamon's deaths, but she insists that ghosts don't bother her.
She tries to blow off her first encounter with the ghost Eamon McCarthy as a coincidence or a hallucination because if she actually saw him, there might be something wrong with her. Her dad saw visions, and they all pretended he didn't.
The film never covered any of Gethsemane's other family,...

Life is dealing the folks of Virgin River with heartwarming and heartbreaking cards.
And frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way, as Virgin River Season 5 Episode 4 served as a bit of calm before the storm, or in this case, before the wildfire.
The hour served as a reminder that we must take the bad with the good in life and can't take anything for granted.
It made it a perfect precursor for what's to come when the wildfires ravage through this small town we know and love.
Do you know what's winsome? A collection of women in their 60s and older reflecting on life and figuring out what their new normal is.
There is often so much discourse surrounding women and aging, and the ladies of Virgin River welcome the concept of aging and the discussions surrounding it and show how beautiful it is.
It also hits you how...

We are 100% here for all the characters on Virgin River growing, evolving, self-reflecting, and trying to be their best selves.
Sometimes, you don't need too many external conflicts to tell a compelling story, and Virgin River Season 5 Episode 3, much like the previous installments, showcases that well.
There's no shortage of conflict coming from outside sources, of course, as the wildfire is approaching and Melissa and her brother both are impacting many people in Virgin River, but the internal work and interpersonal dynamics among characters are most compelling.
The hour introduced us to Lizzie's ambitious, career-driven, opinionated mother, Deidre, and Preacher's scorching hot firefighter love interest.
We also got some endearing moments between Jack and Denny as he continues down his path of healing.
The opener was enough to leave you gasping as you feared that Jack had somehow backslid with his drinking and disrupted things with Mel.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case,...

Heidi Gardner has become one of the Saturday Night Live seniors after having joined the venerable NBC show in season 43.
After a slew of cast members including Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson left last summer, Gardner, along with the likes of Ego Nwodim and Bowen Yang, have stepped up to fill the gap left. And she’s enjoying being “passed the ball more”.
In fact, Gardner had the joint second most cast appearances by segment, tied with Chloe Fineman and behind veteran Kenan Thompson, according to stats compiled by the Saturday Night Network.
Gardner is known for characters such as teen film critic Bailey Gismert and Deidre, one half of a couple who describe their vacation to their friends, as well as every boxer’s girlfriend from every movie about boxing ever, Angel, who she brought back this year.
Promoted to repertory status in season 45 in 2019, Gardner has...

Everything Everywhere All At Once has received 11 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. This is great news. It is not often that a science fiction film is in the running for this level of Academy acclaim, still less one that asks such big questions. Questions like: “Do we have free will?;” “how can our actions have meaning within the context of an infinite universe?;” “how can we reconcile our love for our families with the intergenerational trauma they inflict?;” and “what if humans had evolved giant wobbly hot dog fingers?”
Among the many alternate timelines Everything Everywhere All At Once shows us is a distant dimension where the human race evolved into having giant wobbly hot dog fingers. It’s also the world that served as a backdrop for the love story between Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn, and Jamie Lee Curtis’ Deidre, an alternate timeline...

This article contains minor spoilers for "Everything Everywhere All At Once."
The 2023 Academy Award nominations are here, which means it's time for everyone to celebrate and bemoan the choices based upon their own favorites. Picking out the best picture of the year is ultimately subjective, as one person's best picture is someone else's biggest disappointment, but the Academy has had a pretty rocky history of awarding movies that have some perceived moral component or appeal to nostalgic sentimentality. How else do you explain "Forrest Gump" winning over "Pulp Fiction," or "Green Book" winning at all? While there have been some steps forward in the past decade or so, like "Parasite" winning a surprise Best Picture award in 2020, there have also been some less-than-great wins.
Now, with the nomination of the Daniels' "Everything Everywhere All At Once," it looks like the Academy might actually reward the best movie of the year.

If there's one thing that author Anne Rice loved writing about, it was toxic, messy relationships. Her novels were soapy, supernatural southern gothics that luxuriated in dark sensuality. Her most famous series of novels was The Vampire Chronicles, which primarily followed the vampire Lestat, the Brat Prince of the undead, as he wreaks havoc on every person he meets — vampire, human, or otherwise. Her other major series was "Lives of the Mayfair Witches," which followed a family of witches in New Orleans who were forever entwined with an evil spirit named Lasher. Eventually, the two series crossed over when the witches appeared in the later Vampire Chronicles novels, setting up a whole Anne Rice universe.
Fans of Rice's novels are fervent, and AMC seems to be banking on setting up a television universe based on her world. "Interview with the Vampire," based on the first novel in the Vampire Chronicles,...

Angela Lansbury, who died on Tuesday at the age of 96, revealed in a 2014 interview how she saved her daughter Deirdre Shaw from heroin addiction.
She said that Deirdre and her brother Anthony Shaw have begun abusing hard drugs in the 1960s when Charles Manson was recruiting kids for his murder cult.
“It pains me to say it but, at one stage, Deidre was in with a crowd led by Charles Manson,” Lansbury told the Daily Mail. “She was one of many youngsters who knew him — and they were fascinated. He was an extraordinary character, charismatic in many ways, no question about it.”
According to Lansbury, her daughter was fascinated by Manson’s “charismatic” personality. “Certainly, I have no doubt we would have lost one or both of our two if they hadn’t been removed to a completely different milieu,” she continued.

Angela Lansbury, who passed away this week at the age of 96, was an Academy Award-winning actress, the voice of the beloved Mrs. Potts and a genuinely wholesome person that could out-charm your grandma. She was also a damn good mother, as demonstrated in a story about Angela Lansbury that involves the Manson Family.
The counterculture movement of the 1960s wasn’t all peace and love. There was also Charles Manson and his Family, whose notorious members included Susan Atkins, Squeaky Fromme and Tex Watson. One of the lesser known members was a teenager named Deidre–and she happened to be the daughter of Angela Lansbury.

Cults are a difficult subject to broach, because there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Who is at the center of the cult? What type of people does this organization seek out? How is the cultural landscape at the time? It's questions like these that have oversimplified the case of Charles Manson and his followers for decades –- the hard truth is that there is no simple answer to explain how he was able to convince his followers to kill innocent people. It's a combination of class politics, racism, fandom, and perhaps several other factors that we may never know about.
So, how in the world does Angela Lansbury, who recently passed away at 96 years old, fit into this equation? How can someone so nice catch the ire of the infamous cult leader? Well, according to a 2014 interview with The Daily Mail, it was because her children,...

Angela Lansbury, the beloved Tony-winning star of “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Beauty and the Beast,” who passed away on Tuesday, was wise enough to whisk daughter Deidre Shaw away from cult leader Charles Manson before the infamous 1969 murders committed by his followers.
In 2014, Lansbury told the Daily Mail, “It pains me to say it but, at one stage, Deidre was in with a crowd led by Charles Manson.” She recalled that Deidre and her son Anthony found Manson “charismatic” and were “fascinated” by him.
Once she realized hard drugs were involved, she made the decision to move the whole family from Los Angeles to Ireland where they wouldn’t be exposed to all the “bad influences” of Hollywood. “I said to Peter, ‘We have to leave,'” she said of her late husband Peter Shaw, who died in 2003.

In the wake of Angelia Lansbury’s death on Tuesday, a 2014 interview the actor gave to MailOnline (via The Independent) has resurfaced due to the revelation that Lansbury once saved her daughter from joining Charles Manson’s cult. Lansbury said her daughter, who is now 69, was “fascinated” by Manson, the notorious serial killer whose string of victims included Sharon Tate. Angela Lansbury passed away on Tuesday (11 October) aged 96, her family announced.
While the renowned actor will be remembered by most as mystery writer Jessica Fletcher from the CBS hit series Murder, She Wrote, she also played a starring role as the supercilious Aunt Adelaide in 2005’s Nanny McPhee.
The family favourite film starring Emma Thompson as the eponymous, magical childminder played an important role in Lansbury’s life.
In a 2013 interview with The Guardian, Lansbury credited the film and Thompson with helping her recover from the 2003 death of her husband, actor/producer Peter Shaw.
“Nanny McPhee pulled me out of the abyss. I love Emma [Thompson]. She has an enormous heart,” she said.
Thompson recalled offering Lansbury the role in a speech at the 2013 Governors Awards in Los Angeles.
“Don’t be ridiculous, that’s like asking for a slice of the moon to be delivered,” Thompson remembered when Lansbury was first pitched for the role.

Days of our Lives stars are sharing messages to fans as the NBC soap opera prepares to move to Peacock.
In August, NBC dropped the bombshell that after 57 seasons, the daytime drama would be leaving the network for streaming.
