Aboozar Amini is a Dutch-Afghan filmmaker based in Amsterdam. Aboozar Amini trained as a visual artist at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and received his Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking from London Film School. He is an alumnus of IDFA Academy, Berlinale Talent Campus, Cannes Cinéfondation La Residence and fellow at Akademie Der Künste in Belrin.
His works include video art, documentaries, and fiction aimed at orchestrating and transcending the facades of reality in order to creep under its lingering surface, inviting us to explore a heightened, nuanced perception of the world. Aboozar is fluent in Persian, Dutch, English And Turkish. Following his education, Aboozar moved back to Kabul and started a small production company KINOKABUL, with the aim of bringing to the world new voices from his generation. He co-produced his first long documentary Kabul, City in the Wind with KinoKabul. In 2019 Aboozar won the prestigious Amsterdam Prize for the Arts. His first long documentary film Kabul City in the wind was the IDFA 2018 opening film and won the jury award and Prins Bernhard Documentary award at the same year. Since the re-rise of the Taliban, Aboozar has been giving online lessons to girls in Kabul who are banned from the university. He is now working on his first feature film Tahmina and second feature documentary film Kabul, Year Zero.
