For over half a decade, Capcom joined forces with Marvel to produce a series of fighting games that would influence the genre for years to come. Between 1994 and 2000, seven titles saw arcade halls, bringing fan favorite characters from both universes together for high-octane clashes. This collection preserves those seminal works, reuniting gamers with old friends.
The partnership began in 1994. Led by Street Fighter designer Pom G, X-Men: Children of the Atom brought the mutant brawlers to beating up bad guys in true Capcom style. It introduced air combos and flashy specials that thrilled comic fans. The next year, 1995’s Marvel Super Heroes took the Infinity Gauntlet story to the stage, adding dynamic power-ups to the action. Things got chaotic real fast with 13 characters duking it out.
1996’s X-Men vs. Street Fighter brought the crossover concept, letting Wolverine slash up against Ryu. A tag-team system boosted creativity as players tagged in allies.

It's been confirmed today that prolific comic book artist John Cassaday has died aged just 52. Details are scarce as we write this, though we know he was admitted to the ICU at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York last week.
His sister shared the news of his passing in a Facebook post that read, "My little bro John passed away at 6:51pm Texas time. Please keep me and my mom in your prayers."
Cassaday began his career in the mid-1990s working on Image Comics titles like Gen¹³ and Wetworks. However, we're sure many of you will know him best for his contributions to the Marvel Universe where he redesigned Captain America (with a look that heavily inspired the MCU) and his work alongside Joss Whedon on the critically acclaimed Astonishing X-Men.
The latter series redefined the characters and Cassaday's work was a massive part of that.

Most fans considered Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, to be the most anticipated, ultimate film of the year. The film is still airing in cinemas and has shattered multiple box office records, being among the most profitable releases of the year. After finally breaking the $1 billion mark, the movie is currently the second highest-grossing movie of the year, behind Inside Out 2.
But, while the movie is doing great on the global, annual scale, it also broke numerous records within the MCU, as the numbers confirm, and that is – without a doubt – great news, both for the Deadpool film series as well as the fans of this series. Currently, the movie is in the top 10 highest-grossing MCU movies, but Deadpool himself also broke several significant records.

The concept of the super soldier has become a common (if not overused) conceit in the Marvel Universe — not only in the comics, but in its cinematic iteration as well. Abraham Erskine's Super Soldier Serum is probably best known as the stuff that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America. Notably, Erskine's formula died with him, making Cap the only super soldier alive — at least for the moment. Countless tried to recreate its effects, spawning multiple heroes and villains in the process. A few writers took a page from that book in adapting the comics for Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Characters that previously had little to do with the serum were suddenly made into super soldiers. With certain characters, like Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, it absolutely works. But the sheer influx of characters with similar origins has kind of taken the novelty out of it since.

2022 was full of action-packed hit movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Rrr, and Bullet Train. Despite being a Telugu-language film made for the Indian market, Rrr became one of the biggest surprise hits of the year in the US and has been winning big since its release. The movie has put the actors and director on the map, and two of its stars now want to be the next Iron Man.
‘Rrr’ has been breaking records since its release
Rrr is a fictional retelling of the friendship and lives of two real-life revolutionaries, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, in the 1920s. The movie takes on a What If? type of format exploring the undocumented period in the revolutionaries’ lives as they begin to fight for their country.
Rrr draws attention to the abuses and inequalities of colonial rule and follows the real-life Indian heroes teaming up against their British oppressors.

Take another look at Marvel Comics' "Captain America" - Commie Smasher!, from the publisher's 'cold war' comic books of the 1950's, that identified communist foreign infiltrators, corrupt politicians, bribed journalists and 'useful idiots' as enemies of the state:
"...in 1953, 'William Burnside' discovers the lost formula for the 'Super-Soldier Serum' in 'Third Reich' files stashed in a German warehouse.
"He immediately tells the government about the formula in consideration of becoming the next 'Captain America'...
"...even undergoing plastic surgery to look like 'Steve Rogers', but the government is unconvinced they need another 'Cap'.
"Becoming a disgruntled teacher, the new Rogers befriends rebellious student 'Jack Monroe' and together they access the formula, injecting the chemicals into each other, to become the new Captain America and 'Bucky'.
"The duo fight as 'Commie Smashers'...
"...unaware of a 'Vita-Ray' process required to stabilize the recipient taking the formula.”

Ooh, the MCU is a lot, isn’t it? It was always a lot, but now it’s a Lot lot. With the rollout of Phase Four, fans didn’t just have a handful of blockbuster films to keep up with, there were also multiple TV shows streaming on Disney+ that introduced important new characters and corners of the Marvel Universe that interconnected with big budget theatrical releases.
It’s been a gamble for Marvel Studios, who first properly tested audience reactions with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the first half of 2022. Fully understanding the plot of the Benedict Cumberbatch-led sequel meant you really had to have seen WandaVision on Disney+, and in the next batch of MCU movies, characters and stories from other shows will be important, too.

Dwayne Johnson has announced that Black Adam 2 won’t be a part of DC Comics’ “first chapter”.
In a tweet shared on Tuesday (20 December), the 50-year-old actor said that he connected with new DC CEO James Gunn and been told that “Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling”.
“However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilised in future DC multiverse chapters,” he added.
In his own statement, Gunn said: “Love @TheRock and I’m always excited to see what he and Seven Bucks do next. Can’t wait to collaborate soon.”
Johnson spent a decade trying to bring the Black Adam character to the big screen and has previously voiced his visions for follow-ups involving Superman.

For a while, it seemed like title sequences were a dying art form. Throughout the 2010s, shows seemed to fall largely into two opening credits categories: slow, moving close-ups of pieces of a thing that led to a final zoom out, or a quick, unadorned shot of a title card that makes viewers feel nothing at all. TV seemed to relish telling us as little as possible about the series at hand before it's actually begun, forgoing a decades-old tradition in mood setting to instead cut straight to the action.
Luckily, though, the title sequence seems to be making a comeback. In 2022, title sequences got creative in ways that blended the familiar with the trendy (brief opening titles that change with every episode). The result is a great year for TV fans — and anyone who loves to get a good jingle stuck in their head.

The original Black Panther movie was a game-changer for Marvel Studios and perhaps the superhero genre as a whole. Released in February and (at least in the the minds of some fans) in the shadow of what was the latest Avengers movie, it’s doubtful even Disney anticipated Black Panther to open north of 200 million or that it would go on to be the first superhero flick nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Yet here we are in the shadow of a true, kingly MCU movie. Still, the road to its sequel has been long and marred by tragedy. We may never know exactly what director and co-writer Ryan Coogler had in mind in his initial drafts for what became Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but it obviously changed after the monumental loss of star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 at the age of only 43 after a long, private battle with cancer.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown quite a bit since we last visited Wakanda. We’ve met new comic characters in film form, like Shang-Chi, The Eternals and Ms. Marvel, as well as Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. Thor, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Doctor Strange have all received at least second if not third (or in Thor’s case fourth) installments within their respective hero’s journeys. But of course, the worst news involves the passing of Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed Prince and then King T’Challa in “Black Panther” (2018).
Boseman’s character has not been recast, and the legacy he left behind serves as its own presence in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The world of Wakanda has been slowly introduced over the last few years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it might be helpful to brush up on who has crossed the borders of the hidden nation,...

Making a “Black Panther” sequel without its Black Panther — following the tragic and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 — was always going to be a challenge, and it’s a testament to director and co-writer Ryan Coogler that “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is as entertaining and affecting as it is.
At the same time, like so many sequels before it, “Wakanda Forever” doesn’t land with the same power as its predecessor. That can be partially pinned on the issues that plague any second chapter, where the freshness of the first film has been incorporated into popular culture, but there’s more to it: This is a movie that wants to wrap its arms around grief and loss, and to consider the transfer of power in a royal family, while also introducing a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that necessitates origin stories for a major character and his heretofore hidden kingdom.

Jeremy Strong, the portrayer of everyone's favorite sadboy failson on "Succession," has been accused of taking himself too seriously before. While he takes a lot of issue with that accusation, the seriousness with which he takes his craft has partially led to his career renaissance in the past few years, with his starring role on "Succession" as the centerpiece.
Many pinpoint the point at which his career really took off as when he played a major role in Adam McKay's 2015 flick, "The Big Short," which helped land him the role on the McKay-led HBO series. But according to a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Strong almost got what could have been his big break in a very different kind of movie, "Captain America; The First Avenger."

Chris Evans Is 2022's People's Sexiest Man Alive: "This Is Something [My Mom] Can Really Brag About"
Chris Evans has been crowned this year's People's Sexiest Man Alive! On Nov. 7, the 41-year-old actor officially received the title when People unveiled their annual cover on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." While Evans could not appear on "The Late Show" to be interviewed for the occasion, 2016's Sexiest Man Alive, Dwayne Johnson, filmed a video presenting the title to Evans on the set of their upcoming movie, "Red One." When asked to say something sexy for the audience, Evans simply said, "Go vote tomorrow." Check out the clip ahead.
Evans has been making us swoon ever since his breakout role in 2005's "Fantastic Four," but most of us love him for his starring roles as Captain America in the MCU or Buzz Lightyear himself in "Lightyear." In addition to "Lightyear," Evans also starred alongside Ryan Gosling in Netflix's "The Gray Man" earlier this year, which the streamer...

In one of the more interesting casting missed opportunities, Succession actor Jeremy Strong almost played Captain America. Well, Ok, just his body would have been used…and it would have been for the puny version of Steve Rogers.
In the earlier days of his budding screen career, Jeremy Strong was strongly considered for the role of Steve Rogers’ body in the first act of 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. “They needed someone to play Captain America’s young body, before he turns into a superhero. They said they needed a transformational actor and would use CGI to put the actual actor’s face and voice over my own.”
It’s a fun before-they-were-stars story of pre-fame glimpses of success, but Jeremy Strong ended up turning down the role–maybe he thought it would conflict with his surname? It would go to a fellow named Leander Deeny. Hey, considering most...

After Paul Rudd was announced as People‘s “Sexiest Man Alive” last year, Chris Evans (who was speculated as a potential candidate) just had to wait another 365 days for his win. On Monday during The Late Show, Stephen Colbert announced Evans as this year’s title winner.
“I have longed believed the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ is one of the cornerstones of this great nation,” said Colbert. The host introduced 2022’s winner with “humility and gratitude,” while runner-up John Oliver demanded “a recount” and tried to rally the audience to “stop the steal.

Succession’s Jeremy Strong says he was very nearly cast as Captain America. Well, Captain America’s pre-serum scrawny body anyway. The ideas was that it would be Chris Evans’ head audiences saw, digitally plopped onto Strong’s body.

They said they needed a transformational actor and would use CGI to put the actual actor’s face and voice over my own.”

Chris Evans joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but it was only the actor’s face that fans saw in the first act of the movie. To show a younger Steve Rogers before he is injected with a serum that turns him into a muscular superhero, the VFX team put Evans’ face on the body of a much scrawnier actor. It turns out that actor could’ve been none other than Jeremy Strong had he not turned down the “role.”
“They told me there was a top-secret film about Captain America,” Strong recently told The Times UK. “They needed someone to play Captain America’s young body, before he turns into a superhero. Chris Evans has reacted to Jeremy Strong’s Captain American revelation.
Evans appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Steve Rogers, the super-strengthed Avenger.
When he is first introduced in 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, though, he is shown to be rejected by Second World War military recruitment due to his skinny physical appearance.

Of all the Disney+ shows so far, few have been as impactful as the ending of Loki. While WandaVision set up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced the new Captain America, and Hawkeye brought back the Kingpin, Loki changed the MCU. What began as a character study of the Avengers’ first antagonist became a launching point for the multiverse, in which Loki and his Variant Sylvie encountered He Who Remains, the Variant of Kang the Conqueror who ran the Tva. In choosing to kill He Who Remains, Sylvie created the multiverse, effectively launching the Multiverse Saga, which encompasses Phases Four through Six.

For nearly 15 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been thriving on the big screen. In that time, True Believers have seen some of the biggest superheroes of all time like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor star in their own incredible movies. As the years went on, Marvel Studios has been able to bring a few deeper cuts from your local comic shop to the mainstream, like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Shang-Chi, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. And now that Disney+ has been such a huge success for Kevin Feige and company, the floodgates are wide open to explore even more as shows like "WandaVision," "Ms. Marvel," and "She-Hulk: Attorney At Law" make a splash on the streaming service.

Sometimes, it feels like Mephisto rumors have been around as long as the ageless Marvel supervillain himself. At the very least, you can count the passage of time by them. Remember when everyone thought Jake Gyllenhaal's character in "Spider-Man: Far From Home" would be Mephisto, only for the character to be revealed as an ex-Stark Industries employee with a grudge? What about when people were convinced Evan Peters' off-brand Pietro would be the demon in disguise in "WandaVision"? /Film's own history with Mephisto hype goes at least as far back as 2014, when we pondered the idea of none other than Al Pacino as the big bad.
The demon has long been on the mind of Marvel fans, even if he's yet to make his official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Most recently, Sacha Baron Cohen's name has been thrown in the running, and with Deadline reporting that the "Borat" star might appear in "Ironheart,...

In the film directed by the late Curtis Hanson, Eminem plays Jimmy Smith Jr., a.k.a B-Rabbit, a Detroit battle rapper with a serious case of stage fright. Right before his first battle, he pukes. He then chokes onstage. His main tormentor is the Free World, a ruthless crew who appears to have a chokehold on the battle scene and the streets.
Led by the reigning, defending, undisputed champion, Papa Doc (Mackie), the Free World gets into several physical altercations with B-Rabbit's motley crew of friends. Wink, a mutual...

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe does one thing particularly well, it’s deliver family-friendly outings for us all to enjoy. It’s in stark contrast to Warner Bros.’ typical DC output, which has been called out for its bloody and brooding aesthetic that puts the dark in Dark Knight. Although there have been talks about a more mature MCU, we’re still yet to get an R-rated outing – that honour will soon go to Deadpool 3.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of death and destruction in the MCU, with movies like Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being about as dark as they come. Across four phases, a mountain of movies, and a multiverse of series, it’s not all been happy times sharing a shawarma or twerking with Megan Thee Stallion. Here are 10 of the darkest moments to grace the MCU.

There was a time when, if we were lucky, we might have a movie every so often about a pure A-list superhero such as Batman, Superman, or Spider-Man. But those days are long behind us as comic book-based cinema has ruled the box office for 20 years and is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. Case in point, Dwayne Johnson's long-awaited "Black Adam" recently debuted to strong ticket sales, opening up a new corner of the DC universe.
And while The Rock was the man who convincingly brought Teth Adam to life, it was a man named Chris Brewster who made the action believable, serving as the fight coordinator on the movie. But Brewster's resume is impressive, having also worked on projects like "Daredevil," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Loki," and "Watchmen," among many others. But how does one craft fights for such wildly different superheroes as Black Adam and Daredevil?...

While Dwayne Johnson is enjoying the box office windfall for his new film, Black Adam, his upcoming holiday movie with Chris Evans, Red One, is adding actors to its cast. Set to star in Red One are Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, Wesley Kimmel, and Mary Elizabeth Ellis. Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) directs from a script by Hiram Garcia based on a story by Chris Morgan.
Red One, also starring Lucy Liu and Kiernan Shipka, is keeping its plot at the bottom of Santa’s sack. However, whispers indicate Amazon is hoping to turn the concept into a franchise, with plans to merchandise the daylights out of its star-studded action-adventure holiday comedy.
Red One features two of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters, Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. Both actors are pillars of superhero cinema, with Johnson playing DC‘s Black Adam, while Evans plays Steve Rogers (Captain America) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There is no bigger swing this year from HBO Max in Spain than its original series “Garcia!” Produced by Madrid’s Zeta Studios, the company behind Netflix’s uber hit “Elite,” it also marks a push by HBO Max in Europe into series of broader appeal than the traditional HBO brand.
Dropping worldwide its first two episodes on HBO Max from Oct. 28, the six-part thriller played to applause at its world premiere at Austin’s Fantastic Fest where the series’ Spanish director, Eugenio Mira, is a firm favourite, winning best director in 2005 for his feature debut, “The Birthday,” and screening there in 2013 “Grand Piano,” starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack.
“One of our obsessions, and mine in particular, is trying to do things which have not been done before,” Miguel Salvat, VP commissioning editor Spain for HBO Max, explained to Variety at San Sebastian last year at a presentation which included “Garcia!

Marvel has just concluded their 8th show on Disney+, rounding out the Phase 4 experiment in a definitive way. While fans await the next stage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s plans for the streaming service, it’s a great time to reflect on the tropes and trends that are beginning to emerge as Kevin Feige’s studio grapples with a slightly different medium.
The need for a big bad has driven every series in the superhero genre. It’s rare to see a show from Marvel or indeed DC that doesn’t settle on a major antagonist to steer the narrative, rather than consistently sticking to a villain of the week formula with shorter arcs. However, while Marvel Studios has maintained that formula for their Disney+ shows, it’s also become commonplace to see the foe actually revealed in the conclusive episodes. It seems that...
