Niels Thomas Hanrath grew up mesmerized by the big screen and the stories of heroes, villains and hardships. However, he found that in reality, life was often much more complicated but that powerful stories, reflecting the complexity of the human experience, could really help people navigate this world and their experience of it so, he set out to learn how:
Alone and armed with his iPhone, Niels created his first short film: "The Last Confession", set in a dystopian version of the world. He built sets in a spare bedrooms and lay out in the snow for hours, until he got the footage he wanted. After completion, Niels took the many lessons learned and moved on.
He applied those lessons to his second short film: "Voices". Shot during the pandemic when the world was shut, "Voices" has gone on to win 14 awards worldwide and collect a further 10 nominations.
Acting, directing and working in production for over 10 years have given Niels a unique and well rounded approach to filmmaking. He combines his technical experience, with a love and passion for people, the world and philosophy, aiming to write, direct and produce both thought provoking and entertaining stories.
"Light on the eyes, heavy on the heart."
