Max has opted not to proceed with a third season of Issa Rae’s comedy series Rap Sh!t. The decision comes a month after the show’s Season 2 finale dropped on the streamer.
The second season of Rap Sh!t, originally scheduled for an August 10 debut, was pushed to November because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes with the hope of giving it a better shot by having the creative team and cast promote it.
Max, along with other streamers, has been trimming its lineup of originals. Rap Sh!t‘s cancellation leaves five returning comedy series on the platform: Hacks, And Just Like That…, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Peacemaker and the recently renewed Bookie.

“I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writers and crew that made this show possible,” Rae tells Variety in a statement. “Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls.”

With the unfortunate cancellation of How I Met Your Father after only two seasons, we’ve not only had to say goodbye to one of the few streaming comedies that feels like a true sitcom, but now we’ll likely never know who the titular father actually is. The series’ predecessor How I Met Your Mother took eight seasons to finally reveal the identity of the mother, and while it’s hard to believe that Himyf would have lasted that long anyway in the streaming era, it’s still sad that we won’t have the chance to see Sophie (Hilary Duff) find love the way Ted (Josh Radnor) did.
But just because Himym took so long to introduce the mother, doesn’t mean that we haven’t already met the father of Sophie’s child. The pilot episode even says that Sophie met the father the night of Sid...

One week before the originally scheduled Aug. 10 return of “Rap Sh!t,” Max has delayed the comedy series’ second season to Nov. 9. Season 2 will debut with two episodes followed by weekly drops until the Dec. 21 finale.
The move comes as a result of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. As the labor unions representing writers and actors continue to protest for a new deal with the major studios, actors are completely barred from promoting projects from struck companies, while writers carry out limited press opportunities. The new November premiere date of “Rap Sh!t” signals a hope on the studio’s part, in this case Warner Bros. Max is pushing back the second season of its comedy Rap Sh!t by three months in the latest strike-related scheduling move.
The series, which stars Aida Osman and KaMillion as estranged high school friends who form a rap duo, had been slated to premiere on Aug. 10. Max has moved the date back to Nov. 9.
The change serves two purposes for the Warner Bros. Discovery streamer: It will give Max new programming in the fall, which could become increasingly sparse if strikes by Hollywood writers and actors continue into the autumn. And should the unions and the media companies they’re striking against work out deals before then, the show’s stars and producers would be able to promote the new season.

Josh Peck has no idea if he's the father on "How I Met Your Father" - and even if he did, he wouldn't say. "If I did know and I leaked it, literally, guys in suits would descend and cart me off in some sort of van," he tells Popsugar. Despite not knowing how it all ends, Peck knows what he wants to happen. "I sure do hope," he says when asked if he'd like to be the father of Hilary Duff's son on the show.
In the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff, Peck plays Drew, a vice principal at an elementary school where Chris (Jesse Lowell) works. Drew dates Duff's character Sophie throughout the first season, making him - along with Ian (Daniel Augustin), Jesse, Sid (Suraj Sharma), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), and even Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) - into a top contender for the father of Sophie's son.

Barney’s back.
Neil Patrick Harris is set to reprise his star-making role of Barney Stinson on the upcoming mid-season finale of the Hulu original spinoff series “How I Met Your Father.”
Harris was a main cast member and a fan favorite on the original CBS comedy series “How I Met Your Mother,” which ran for nine seasons after debuting in 2005. Harris earned four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series over the course of his tenure with the show, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Harris will appear in next week’s two-episode mid-season finale of “How I Met Your Father,” which debuts on Hulu on March 28. After the duo of installments, the series will take a hiatus for a few weeks before continuing its 20-episode second season on May 23.
“How I Met Your Father” centers on Sophie (Hilary Duff) and how she met the father of her child.

It’s the question of the century — who is the father of Hilary Duff’s character’s son in How I Met Your Father on Hulu? Unfortunately, it might be a while before we get an answer since the comedy series will likely run for many seasons. But the writers have been kind to fans and supplied us with clues regarding the dad’s identity.

“How I Met Your Father” started with a bang with Sophie (Hilary Duff) describing the lowest point in her life — “I think I’m dating my father” she frantically tells her mother (played by Paget Brewster) over the phone.
But fans of the show are nowhere near finding out who is Sophie’s father than they are finding the eponymous father – the love of Sophie’s life.
Speaking to Et Canada about the show’s best-kept secret, Duff, the protagonist and one of the producers, said, “Since I’m a producer, I do get episodes like before everybody else — which is so braggy and awful. But like the way that they protect them, you would think that I was dealing with Marvel footage like the pics and like double step authenticator. I just end up not watching them because I can’t get to them. It’s very, very like them.

"How I Met Your Father" is back, and no, we still don't know who the father is. But the season two premiere, which Hulu released on Jan. 24, promised something even bigger: a major cameo from a member of the original "How I Met Your Mother" cast. It's not surprising, since the season one finale featured Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky giving advice to Sophie (Hilary Duff) about her relationship with Jesse (Chris Lowell).
But in the season two premiere, viewers get a look at the original's most legendary cast member: Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson. Here's how it goes down.

“How I Met Your Father” kicks off new episodes in just a few weeks, and only Et exclusively debuts the season 2 trailer!
The minute-long trailer opens with Sophie (Hilary Duff) and her friend, Valentina (Francia Raisa), as they lament entering their 30s and how much of a “trainwreck” their lives still are. They’re all still trying to find “the love of [their] lives,” but as Sophie shares, “the world is not that simple anymore” as the friends continue to go through the highs and lows of trying to date in the modern age.
In one scene from the trailer, Ellen (Tien Tran) comments about how Sophie is dating “an older guy” as she and the others have a laugh about it at the bar — not knowing that Sophie’s new man (played by “Sex and the City’s” John Corbett) is actually there too. Awkward!
And things certainly aren’t...

“We all want to meet the love of our life, but the world is not that simple anymore,” Sophie (Hilary Duff) says in the How I Met Your Father Season 2 trailer. Sophie’s love life was already complicated heading into the new episodes, which premiere on Tuesday, January 24. After all, she and Jesse (Christopher Lowell) only briefly gave it a try. Her date from the series premiere, Ian (Daniel Augustin), returned in the Season 1 finale. Also possibilities: Sid (Suraj Sharma) and Charlie (Tom Ainsley). Speaking of Charlie, can he and Valentina (Francia Raisa) really just be friends? But the moment that really made us stop while watching the trailer was seeing John Corbett guest starring as an older guy Sophie’s dating — especially since he played Duff’s teacher in 2004’s Raise Your Voice. Other guest stars shown in the video, which you can watch above, include Meghan Trainor and Mark Consuelos.

“Rap Sh!t” Episode 6 does not mess around — narratively speaking.
The latest installment of Issa Rae’s HBO Max comedy about emerging female rappers in Miami covers Mia (KaMillion) being targeted on social media while Shawna (Aida Osman) distracts herself from a devastating breakup by hanging out with Maurice (Daniel Augustin). When the women reconvene at episode’s end, they decide to take on Chastity a.k.a. the Duke of Miami (Jonica Booth) as their manager, focusing their emotional energy into creativity.
“An undercurrent in the entire episode is ‘Can I trust you to be there for me?’ and that’s coming off of the episode before where we saw that that trust had been broken,” director Amy Aniobi told IndieWire via Zoom ahead of the episode. “Even though we end on on the moment that’s tied to a guy, the episode is not about the men. “Rap Sh!t” may not be the follow-up some expect from Issa Rae, but it makes perfect sense. In “Insecure,” Rae made her affinity for rap well-known with her character Issa’s popular mirror performances. So “Rap Sh!t,” which Rae created, is not a radical departure in the least, and the explosion of female rappers like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Saweetie and others makes the timing ripe. In fact, the story itself bears a noticeable similarity to the rise of female rap duo City Girls, whose members Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee and Jatavia Shakara “Jt” Johnson coincidentally serve as executive producers.
Set in Miami, rappers Trina and City Girls’ hometown, “Rap Sh!t” follows one-time schoolmates Shawna and Mia who reconnect and begin forming their own rap duo. Since high school, the two women have been on different paths. Mia is a fledgling makeup artist and...

“Rap Sh!t” may be grounded in reality, but there’s something lightly surreal about the experience of watching it. Issa Rae’s new comedy, showrun by “Insecure” writer Syreeta Singleton and premiering July 21 on HBO Max, bobs and weaves between its stories and the ones its characters are constantly posting on Instagram. The camera adopts the perspective of their phones as they scroll and Facetime; people watch each other’s stories with suspicion and envy; onscreen graphics send a stream of comments and hearts up the sides of the screen. As friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) chase their rapping dreams and the fame it would take to achieve them, they fastidiously document and post everything — everything — that could convince the world that they’re on the rise. And even when this TV approximation of social media doesn’t feel especially realistic in terms of its #content, seeing...

Insecurity may have been what Issa Rae began building her TV empire on, but her latest offering is anything but.
Rap Sh!t, Rae’s latest half-hour comedy series for HBO Max, is a case study in confidence; the show follows two estranged high school friends from Miami who form an unlikely rap group, determined to achieve their dreams of making waves in the music industry.
“I came up with the show while we were doing season five [of Insecure], and it’s always been gestating in my mind. I always wanted to do a show in the music world so I was like, ‘What’s a show that I want to watch right now that feels fun, of the moment, and that’s a reflection of the culture right now?’” Rae, who serves as head writer and executive producer, told The Hollywood Reporter...

Spoiler Alert: This story reveals important plot points from the Season 1 finale of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father.
The Season 1 finale of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father had a little bit of everything for anxious fans: surprise (re)appearances, a tuxedo cat, a wedding, two breakups, and the final piece of the puzzle connecting The Captain (Kyle MacLachlan) and Sophie’s (Hilary Duff) love life.
The episode titled “Timing Is Everything” opens with the Captain as he is negotiating the terms of his divorce from Becky (Laura Bell Bundy), and all she wants is his most prized processions—his boats. If you’re wondering what on earth their marital woes have to do with Sophie, her future self (Kim Cattrall) asks for patience as the story unravels.
Present-day Sophie is almost stood up by Jesse (Chris Lowell) at a restaurant, but he barrels in extremely late with a tepid excuse.
