Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to “Daddy,” a sci-fi film that will be released in 2024.

The news comes as Anchor Bay is being relaunched after Umbrelic Entertainment chiefs Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz bought the company’s trademark. Anchor Bay was included in Starz’s 2016 sale to Lionsgate. Under Zambeck and Katz, Anchor Bay is looking to release genre films and cult favorites.

In the case of “Daddy,” the movie was co-written and co-directed by Neal Kelley and Jono Sherman in their feature debut. It stars Yuriy Sardarov (“Chicago Fire”), Jacqueline Toboni (“The L Word: Generation Q”), Pomme Koch (“WeCrashed“) and Britt Baron (“Glow”).

The film is set in a dystopian society where the state has the power to determine who can and cannot father children. Four men attend a government-mandated retreat in the remote mountains of California. When they arrive, there’s no guide or instructions waiting for them.

On January 18, 2004, Showtime made history with “The L Word”: a spaghetti-strapped melodrama about twiggy lesbians living against a golden-filtered backdrop of mid-aughts Los Angeles.

Showtime has canceled “The L-Word: Generation Q,” TheWrap has confirmed.

The series, a sequel to Showtime’s 2004-2009 series “The L-Word,” premiered in 2019 and wrapped up its third season in January. The network hasn’t commented publicly on the cancelation, but an individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that Showtime is in early development on a possible reboot of the original series, which has a working title of “The L-Word: New York.”

“The L Word: Generation Q” has been canceled at Showtime after three seasons, but a reboot of the original series is in the works, Variety has confirmed.

Despite “Generation Q’s” cancellation, the “L Word” franchise may still live on as there is a reboot of the original 2004 series, which ran for six seasons, in development with creator Ilene Chaiken attached. “The L Word: New York” is the series’ working title.

Showtime is closing the book on The L Word: Generation Q.

According to Deadline, the series has been canceled after three seasons on the premium cabler.

The news comes two months after The L Word: Generation Q Season 3, which means fans could be left pondering what happened next.

While Generation Q is done, L Word creator Ilene Chaiken is prepping a reboot of the original series for Showtime.

The potential series would be called The L Word: New York and would shift the action to -- you guessed it -- New York.

Generation Q was a continuation of the original series which aired on Showtime from 2004 to 2009.

The drama of The L Word: Generation Q, Showtime’s reboot of the original, 2000s-era L Word, can be summed up by singer-songwriter Fletcher’s line in the just-released Season 3 trailer: “It’s the kind of sapphic chaos I live for.” In a press release, Showtime says Generation Q’s third season picks up right where the Season 2 cliffhanger left off — with Tina (returning L Word alum Laurel Holloman) asking Bette (Jennifer Beals) if she still loves her — and the season will “follow the cast of characters as they struggle with secrets, old scars and new flames on their search for ‘the one.’” “While [Bette and Tina] determine their future together, their daughter Angie (Jordan Hull) embraces her new freedom at college, finding love in all the wrong places,” the premium cable network adds. “At the bungalow, Finley (Jacqueline Toboni) returns from rehab and discovers news about Sophie (Rosanny Zayas) that threatens both her sobriety and their relationship.

Prime Video shared the official trailer for upcoming Western drama series “The English,” starring Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer. All six episodes of the limited series will premiere on November 11 exclusively in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordics on Prime Video, following its November 10 UK premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. The series is created by Hugo Blick, who also serves as an executive producer, director and writer.

The series follows aristocratic Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke, played by Blunt, and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout named Eli Whipp, played by Spencer. They come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood.

“The English” is produced by Drama Republic, a Mediawan company, and Eight Rooks. Blunt also serves as executive producer, alongside Greg Brenman for Drama Republic. Colin Wratten serves as a producer on “The English.” Global distribution is handled by All3Media Intl.

The good word on The L Word: Generation Q is that the Showtime series has been renewed for a third season — four months after its sophomore finale aired.

The news comes on the heels of Showtime renewing freshman hit Yellowjackets, but pulling the plug on Black Monday and Work in Progress.

The L Word: Generation Q will be back for another go-round. Showtime has renewed the sequel to the groundbreaking LGBTQ series for a 10-episode third season for premiere later this year.

Created by Ilene Chaiken, The L Word: Generation Q follows a group of LGBTQ friends in Los Angeles as they experience love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success. “The L Word: Generation Q” has been renewed for Season 3 at Showtime, Variety has learned.

The second season of the followup to “The L Word” aired between August and October 2021. Like the second season, the third will consist of 10 episodes. It is expected to air on Showtime later in 2022.

Showtime’s LGBTQ series The L Word: Generation Q returned on August 8th, and we talked with Leo Sheng, the trans actor who reprised his role as Micah Lee.

On the Sept 5th episode, Micah realized he was interested in women and kissed his friend Maribel for the first time.

We chatted with Sheng about his character’s evolving sexual identity, that passionate kiss, and counseling college students.

Hi Leo. This has been quite a season for you so far. The L Word: Generation Q has ramped up your storyline. How does it feel to be part of a series that produces content at the forefront of representation discussion?

I feel so incredibly honored to be part of this series. The original show tore down so many barriers and allowed lesbians and queer women to see themselves on screen in ways they never had before.

“The L Word: Generation Q” showrunner, executive producer, director and writer Marja-Lewis Ryan has inked an exclusive overall development deal with Showtime, Variety has learned.

Gary Levine, president of entertainment with Jana Winograde at the premium cable outfit, praised “the energy, the perspective and the fun” Ryan brings to “The L Word: Generation Q,” calling her Showtime’s Shohei Ohtani — “a gifted two-way player who is both an exceptional writer and an inventive director.”

For her part, Ryan enthused about having a home for her work at Showtime. “Their support of my vision for ‘The L Word: Generation Q’ has been absolutely extraordinary,” she said. “I so look forward to developing my own projects as well as shepherding new, progressive creatives into the Showtime flock as we work together to diversify the kinds of stories that get told.”

Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q will mark its second season debut later this summer.

The premium cabler shared the news Tuesday that a second season would launch on non-linear platforms on Friday, August 6, ahead of a linear debut on Sunday, August 8.

The sophomore premiere will be available on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime subscribers. 

What's more, new episodes will be available on streaming and on-demand every Friday in a move to capitalize on the streaming audience.

Many networks are adapting to the ever-changing market, allowing viewers to watch shows on their own terms.

AMC has had success streaming many of its original series days before their linear debut, so it will be exciting to see how this works out.

The first five episodes of season two will air Sunday nights, with the final five episodes of the season airing Monday nights at 9 p.m. Et/Pt up until its October 11 season finale.

The L Word: Generation Q will debut its first episode on Friday, August 6, on streaming and on-demand for Showtime subscribers, two days ahead of its on-air premiere Sunday, August 8 at 10 Pm, the premium cabler said Tuesday. Each new episode will be available on Fridays to stream on demand. The first five episodes of season two will air Sunday nights, with the final five episodes of the season airing Monday nights at 9 Pm Et/Pt up until its October 11 season finale. Showtime is kicking off LGBTQ Pride Month with good news for fans of The L Word: Generation Q.

The show’s second season will premiere on Sunday, Aug. 8 at 10/9c, with the first five episodes continuing to air on Sunday nights. New episodes will then move to Mondays, beginning Sept. 13, where the remainder of the season will air, leading up to the Oct. 11 finale.

Showtime announced that Season 2 of “The L Word: Generation Q” will debut on non-linear platforms on Aug. 6 and premiere on-air on Aug. 8 at 10 p.m.

Based on the iconic drama series “The L Word,” the series’ second season will continue to follow the characters, both old and new, as they experience setbacks and successes in their careers and personal lives.

Starring Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey, who reprise their original roles from “The L Word,” the series also features Arienne Mandi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni, Rosanny Zayas, Sepideh Moafi and Jordan Hull. Season 2 recurring guest stars include Rosie O’Donnell, Donald Faison, Griffin Dunne and Vanessa Williams.

Showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan executive produces alongside series creator Ilene Chaiken, Kristen Campo, Allyce Ozarski, Maisha Closson, Beals, Moennig and Hailey.

“The L Word: Generation Q” at Showtime has added Vanessa Williams in a recurring role for Season 2, Variety has learned exclusively.

The new iteration of the series follows the intermingled lives of Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Shane McCutcheon (Katherine Moennig) and Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey) from the original “The L Word” drama series that aired from 2004 to 2009. Williams will recur as Pippa Pascal, described as an incendiary artist who’s been out of the public eye for almost 20 years — until Bette becomes determined to track her down.

Additional cast members for “Generation Q” include Arienne Mandi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni, Rosanny Zayas, and Sepideh Moafi. It was also previously announced that Rosie O’Donnell, Donald Faison, and Griffin Dunne will guest star in multiple episodes of the second season. It is expected to debut on Showtime later this year.

Rosie O’Donnell, Donald Faison and Griffin Dunne are set to guest star on Season 2 of Showtime’s “The L Word: Generation Q,” the premium cable network announced Wednesday.

O’Donnell, who most recently starred on Showtime’s “Smilf,” will play Carrie, a brash and kindhearted public defender who is thrust into Bette’s (Jennifer Beals) life and quickly gets under her skin. Faison will play Tom, a self-deprecating editor who works with Alice (Leisha Hailey). Dunne will play Isaac, one of the biggest international art mega-dealers who Bette comes to know.

In addition to the three guest stars, Showtime has also promoted Jordan Hull, who appeared on the first season as Bette’s daughter Angie, to series regular for Season 2.

Season 2 is currently in production in Los Angeles and is set to premiere on Showtime next year.

Warner Bros. has picked up the worldwide sales rights to Esx Entertainment’s political drama series “Casa Grande,” which award-winning Argentine director Gabriela Tagliavini (“How to Break Up With Your Douchebag”) has been tapped to direct.

Warner Bros. International Television Distribution will handle international sales while Warner Bros. Television Group does domestic.

Inspired by true events, the dramatic series of five one-hour episodes follows several families in the farmland of Northern California as it navigates universal themes of class, immigration, culture and family.

“There’s a war about race in our country taking place right now, and we decided to take the bull by the horns,” said Tagliavini, adding: “We show in provocative scenes how hate and violence are originated by fear.”
