Kelsey Grammer is currently enjoying a great deal of success with the revival of "Frasier," a series that has been running on Paramount+ since October 2023. The original "Frasier," itself a spinoff of "Cheers," starred Grammer as the titular character, a radio psychologist whose persnickety attitudes and tastes invited all manner of zany shenanigans into his life. The original show lasted 264 episodes over 11 seasons, making it one of the most successful sitcoms of its decade.
But, as many might be able to point out, Grammer's career has been wildly varied in success. He often shows up in films, yet he has headlined far more bombs than hits. Grammer has played Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast in several live-action "X-Men" movies, but he has also appeared in a slew of weird, low-budget, straight-to-home-media schlock. Who could forget, for instance, the bizarre glories of Andrew Lawrence's "Money Plane"? Grammer has similarly starred in numerous low-rent Christmas movies,...

[This story contains spoilers from the season two finale of Frasier.]
Midway through the first episode of Frasier’s second season, star Kelsey Grammer picks up an Enchanted Snooker Ball — think of a British Magic 8-Ball — and asks, “Does Frasier Crane still got it?” The answer — “Indubitably” — does the opposite of comforting him as he continues settling into life back in Boston. Instead, it sends Dr. Crane on a warpath. His anger is warranted, because moments earlier he discovered that the toy gave the same answer to his son when he questioned quitting Harvard to become a fireman. Frasier frantically shakes the ball again, asking if his curmudgeon best friend Alan Cornwall (played masterfully by Nicholas Cornwall) used the same toy to give his son the advice. The ball answers, “Obviously, you bloody fool.”
The joke lands so well that the laughter from the live audience can still be heard long after the scene ends.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for all of Frasier Season 2 on Paramount+.] It seems to be a tradition now, for the Frasier revival to cap off a season with a Christmas episode. For Season 2, it was a heartwarming one. Alan (Nicholas Lyndhurst) learned his estranged daughter was in town, and everyone plotted to reunite them. While that didn’t go as planned (though meant some fun moments), it was after Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) spoke to Nora (Rayne Bidder) about absent fathers that there was a happy family reunion at Frasier’s (Kelsey Grammer) for the holiday. Now, the titular character is looking forward to scheming with his son in the future. Below, executive producers Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris break down the finale, talk about Frasier and Roz (Peri Gilpin) and Freddy and Eve (Jess Salgueiro), and tease what could be ahead in a third season, should they get one. Talk about having the season end with Alan...

Kelsey Grammer has been crying quite a bit of late. He cried prior to the launch of the "Frasier" revival. He cried during the production of the "Frasier" revival. And he teared up during the eighth episode of season 2, where Frasier returns to Seattle in what was ultimately a missed opportunity for the series. In the episode, as the good doctor prepares to deliver his famous "I'm listening" catchphrase while sitting at the very desk from which he hosted his talk radio show for 11 years, Frasier — and therefore Grammer — is clearly emotional, and rightly so.
The actor being perpetually on the verge of tears is understandable. Frasier is a character he has played since 1984 when he first appeared on "Cheers." As such, Grammer has portrayed the lovable psychiatrist across four decades and three separate series. What's more, the character literally gave Grammer a career, so you can imagine that the...

In “Thank You, Dr. Crane,” Frasier’s (Kelsey Grammer) jaunt back to Seattle with Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) wasn’t just a walk down memory lane; it was a full-on sprint, tripping over ghosts of radio past and questionable career advice. The Harvard bar scene felt like a quick exposition dump, cramming in Niles and Daphne’s Sedona vineyard […]

If there's one thing haunting the "Frasier" revival series, beyond the general complaint that only Kelsey Grammer returned from the original cast, it's the more specific complaint that Niles isn't in the show. The titular psychiatrist's similarly pompous yet lovable brother was essentially the other main character in the original sitcom, and his absence from the reboot has been conspicuous to say the least.
Fans will know the story about why Niles actor David Hyde Pierce didn't return for the "Frasier" revival. To put it simply, the man didn't seem all that interested in the project, claiming he didn't "miss" the characters and was otherwise busy with other ventures. After the Paramount+ streaming series was renewed for a second season, however, the actor's comments started to sound a little less negative, with Hyde Pierce revealing his one condition for returning to the role of Niles. It might be too early to say that the "Frasier" revival is getting better. But after season 2, episode 5 brought back one of the best recurring characters from the original series, and with Peri Gilpin's Roz Doyle confirmed as a recurring guest for this season, things are certainly looking up for the show.
Star Kelsey Grammer has done his best to carry the modern incarnation of "Frasier," but he's thus far been hampered by a supporting ensemble that, try as they might, were never going to live up to the original series' excellent cast. As more characters from that beloved '90s sitcom return to the revival, however, the show has started to feel a bit more like the "Frasier" of old we all miss. It's bittersweet to recognize that the 2024 "Frasier" is only really good when it's more obviously pandering to our collective nostalgia, but that is, for better or worse,...

By the end of the "Frasier" revival's first season, I was convinced that the new series should have been a one-off special. The series opener was a touching return to the world of Kelsey Grammer's Dr. Crane, featuring a moving tribute to the late Martin actor John Mahoney and some half-decent writing from new showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristali — the latter of whom is a self-confessed "Frasier" superfan who used to run a "Frasier For Hire" Twitter feed containing the writer's ideas for jokes that could have been used on the original sitcom.
The season finale, too, stacked up quite nicely against "Frasier" episodes past, bringing back the titular psychiatrist's former producer Roz (Peri Gilpin) for a cameo appearance that surely had fans of the original series tearing up. But between these two standout episodes, the "Frasier" revival's first season was a whole load of mediocre. New characters...

As Frasier Crane made his way back to his hometown of Seattle all those years ago, he no doubt felt the familiar mix of emotions that often accompany returning home—nostalgia, warmth, but also apprehension about how things may have changed. His life was firmly in transit then, as he sought a fresh start after his marriage ended. Yet it was in that city where he had spent his formative years that he would ultimately find community and belonging once more.
Now, in the Paramount+ revival series, we find Frasier in another moment of transition. Having left Boston behind, this time he ventures back to familiar surroundings in the hope that the pieces of his life may fall into place a little easier. Of course, things are never quite so simple. New challenges have emerged in his relationships with friends and family.

Frasier, one of our favorite sitcoms here at Show Snob returns on Thursday, Sept. 19, only on Paramount+ and we’re super excited to start watching! If you’re on the same page as us, we’re here to help with the Frasier season 2 episode release schedule (and more) so you don’t miss out!
I know we have done our fair share of complaining about reboots and remakes, the world of entertainment is full of these. However, we’d be lying if we said we haven’t enjoyed a few of these shows. That said, Frasier is one of the shows we’re glad was brought back. The original series ran from 1993 to 2004, so it has now been about 20 years since the series concluded.

Whenever a beloved show like “Frasier” is revived, it’s easy to anticipate skepticism from the original iteration’s diehard fans, given the challenges of living up to its predecessor with new characters and storylines.
But with the first installment of the Paramount+ series under their belts — and the show set to return for Season 2 this week — co-showrunners Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris told TheWrap they’re feeling less pressured and more excited for an “even more fun” and “sometimes convoluted” new set of stories.
“The first season was really about catching us up with Frasier, where he is in life, and establishing the world and introducing these characters to everyone,” Harris explained. ‘In Season 2, we’ve had a lot more fun playing with these characters and showing their interactions with each other. It’s really just deepening the world and a couple things that we held back on in the first season.

Pro tip: always keep your head up when walking onto a studio lot.
I learned this the hard way when I attended a taping of the “Frasier” revival on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles over the summer. Looking down to consult my map, I almost walked directly into the path of a cyclist whipping between the soundstages. When I jumped out of the way, I realized it was none other Kelsey Grammer. What better way to get the blood flowing than biking around in full costume an hour before reporting to work?
Walking out of the taping, all I could say was that the biking is paying off. At 69 years old, Grammer is as full of life as ever. Even if reactions to the first season of the reboot were mixed, everyone seemed to agree that Grammer hasn’t lost a step when it comes to playing Dr. Frasier Crane.

“We’ve done some smooching,” Kelsey Grammer says (but remains coy) when TV Insider brings up a photo of his character (Frasier Cane) and Peri Gilpin‘s (Roz) that has been released for Frasier Season 2. (See it below.) Executive producer Joe Cristalli, too, dodges the question about the two friends who do have a history. “It definitely looks like they’re kissing for sure, 100 percent looks like they’re kissing, and Freddy [Jack Cutmore-Scott] and Eve [Jess Salgueiro] do look shocked to see what they think looks like them kissing,” he says. Executive producer Chris Harris agrees, “It does look like they’re kissing a lot. There’s something going on.” But looking at that relationship in general this season, “One of the wonderful things about getting to work with Peri and Kelsey is their relationship in some way reflects the relationship of their characters,” adds Harris. “These are old...

Plot: Frasier Crane is in the next chapter of his life after he returns to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships and—with hope— finally fulfill an old dream or two. The sitcom Frasier, starring Kelsey Grammer in the titular role, was a critical, ratings and awards success during its run from 1993 through 2004. It continued to pick up new fans when it was syndicated, and later when it became a fixture on streaming platforms. When any property becomes an across-the-board hit like this one, there’s going to be talk of reviving it in some form, even if most series regulars have declined to reprise their roles and one of them has died. Thus did a new season of a new Frasier reach Paramount+ subscribers last fall.
Even positive reviews were notably qualified. Liz Shannon Miller wrote that “it feels like something’s missing” and cited a lack of “purpose”; Laura Bradley complained that Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Alan (supposedly a lifelong friend of Frasier’s despite our never having heard of him before this era of Frasier’s story) is “one-note.

Let me clarify: I am a massive fan of the original Frasier and the character that originated on Cheers. The first season is a classic, generally regarded as one of the funniest sitcoms of all. The writing was an embarrassment of riches. Intelligent, witty, clever, and full of heart.
The revival was announced, and my fear of a money grab was initially evident. The series spent too much time trying to recreate the magic by constantly throwing a haymaker joke at the wall. Then, the obnoxious laugh track did not help matters.
Everything becomes contrived, trying to recreate the magic from years past and refusing to view the legendary character through a new lens. However, the series slowly regained its form after a handful of episodes. There were fitfully funny and thoughtful moments, just like we remembered.

Paramount+’s Frasier revival is returning for Season 2 this month — and it’s digging deeper into two generations of Crane men.

Because time is a flat circle and Kelsey Grammer has alimony payments to make, we’re getting yet another season of Frasier. While the Paramount+ reboot doesn’t come back until September, a trailer for Season Two just dropped, giving fans a peek at the return of Roz, Bulldog, Gil and a bunch of other characters who frustratingly aren’t named “Niles.”
But — and I fully acknowledge that this is clearly at the bottom of the list of things to get upset about in the world right now — the trailer ends with an exchange that feels completely out-of-step with the larger continuity of the show.
When we see Frasier return to his old studio at Kacl in Seattle, he introduces Bulldog to Freddy, and Freddy tells the host (who somehow hasn’t been canceled in the past two decades): “I used to listen to your show all the time as a kid.

Another “Frasier” alum is about to return to the series’ new revival: Harriet Sansom Harris, who originally played Frasier Crane’s agent, Bebe Glazer, is back for a guest role in Season 2. Joining her will be “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” star Rachel Bloom, who will play Bebe’s daughter, Phoebe Glazer.
As described by the show, the “delightfully devilish Bebe Glazer, one of the show’s most iconic characters,” is “known for her dramatic flair and outrageous Machiavellian maneuvers. Details on how they come back into Frasier’s life are being kept quiet for now.
“Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to Frasier and for the opportunity to work together once again,” Grammer said in a statement.
Peri Gilpin (who guest-starred in the revival’s first season finale) will reprise her role as Roz in the coming season, where she’ll recur. Patricia Heaton — who starred with Grammer in Fox’s Back to You in 2007-08 — Yvette Nicole Brown,...

There are few actors who have played one character for longer than Kelsey Grammer has portrayed his highfalutin alter ego, Dr. Frasier Crane. The refined yet often self-sabotaging psychologist first popped into a certain Boston neighborhood bar 40 years ago, during the third season of Cheers, and remained a fixture as the NBC sitcom wrapped in 1993.
That was only the beginning for a role that would win Grammer his first Emmy in 1994, for the inaugural season of Frasier. THR‘s review at the time praised his “understated acerbic bite” in the spinoff that charted Frasier’s return to his hometown of Seattle, where he enjoyed local-celebrity status as the host of a call-in radio show and regularly dealt with frustration caused by his ex-cop dad, Martin (John Mahoney), and neurotic brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce). Frasier ran until 2004, with Grammer netting four Emmys and 14 acting noms for his portrayal. (His Emmy...
