Beta Cinema has revealed further sales on its Berlinale and Europe Film Market lineup, including “500 Miles,” “Führer and Seducer,” “Hammarskjöld,” “The Light” and “From Hilde, With Love.”

After a first deal on the upcoming Bill Nighy-roadmovie “500 Miles” with True Brit Ent. for U.K. was announced during the market, Beta Cinema has confirmed further territories have picked up the dramedy: Australia and New Zealand (Kismet), Middle East (Front Row), Italy (Maestro Distribution), Benelux (September Film), Greece (Feelgood) and former Yugoslavia (Discovery). Aardwolf Films picked up worldwide airline rights. BAFTA-winner Morgan Matthews will direct from a script by Malcolm Campbell, based on the novel “Charlie and Me” by Mark Lowery later in 2024. Roman Griffin Davis will star next to Nighy.

Picturehouse Entertiainment has picked up From Hilde, With Love, the new drama from German director Andreas Dresen (Stopped on Track) for the U.K. and Ireland, adding to a swath of European deals for the title, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last month.

Liv Lisa Fries (Babylon Berlin) stars in the 1940s-set drama as Hilde Coppi, a member of a left-wing anti-Nazi resistance cell. Beta, which is handling international sales for the movie, previously announced deals for From Hilde, With Love with Haut et Court in France, Teodora in Italy, Angel Film across Scandinavia, September Film for Benelux and Outsider for Portugal, among other deals. Palace Film will release From Hilde, With Love in Australia and New Zealand. Pandora Film Verleih is handling the German release and will bow the movie in German-speaking territories this October.

Battered by disappointing markets at Toronto and AFM, both of which were held under the shadow of the actors strike, buyers and sellers are looking to Berlin’s European Film Market (EFM), which runs Feb. 15-21, to re-energize the indie business. The outlook, coming out of Sundance, is good.

“The difference in Sundance from last year to this was extreme, there were a lot more deals being down, both by distributors and streamers,” says Janina Vislmaier, head of sales at Protagonist Pictures, which screened The Outrun with Saoirse Ronan and Sasquatch Sunset with Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg in Park City, both of which will screen at the EFM. “Everyone is really excited ahead of Berlin, especially because all the buyers are back, including from Asia, which is a really good sign.”

The Origin Pictures, Port Pictures and Minnow Films project is described as “a thrilling road movie full of heart, wit and wonder.”

“The story follows a broken family forced to come together when 16-year-old Finn (Davis) and his livewire younger brother Charlie run away from trouble at home in England to reach their estranged grandfather (Nighy) on Ireland’s stunning and wild West coast,” according to a plot description.

Academy Award nominee Bill Nighy and rising teen actor Roman Griffin Davis are set to co-star in road movie 500 Miles from BAFTA Award-winning director Morgan Matthews.

Beta Cinema has acquired international sales rights to the drama – produced by Origin Pictures, Port Pictures and Minnow Films – and will launch sales at the EFM.

Nighy will co-star as the grandfather of a young runaway played by Davis, who made history in 2019 as the youngest ever Golden Globe nominee for his performance in Taika Waititi’s World War II satire Jojo Rabbit. Recent credits for Nighy include Living, for which he was Oscar nominated in the lead actor category last year.

Road movie 500 Miles follows a broken family forced to come together when sixteen-year-old Finn (Davis) and his live-wire younger brother Charlie run away from trouble at home in England to reach their estranged grandfather (Nighy) on Ireland’s stunning and wild west coast.

Steve Urkle terrorized the Winslows with his hormones and buffoonery, Zack Morris, an unchecked sociopath, ruled the halls of Bayside High, and the cast of Boy Meets World dabbled in matters of the heart, disturbing societal norms, and the multitude of ways to conduct a proper Feeny call. Aaron Carter’s final album will be released on Nov. 6.

The late rapper, who unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, recently completed what is now his final album, Blacklisted. Though the project was originally slated to be released on Dec. 7, which would have been Carter’s 35th birthday, the album’s producers, Morgan Matthews and John Wyatt Johnson, have decided to release the independent album sooner, to honour the late musician.

Blacklisted, which marks Carter’s first album in six years, was recorded over a 12-month period, beginning last November, the same month Carter welcomed his son Prince with ex, Melanie Martin.

Blue Fox Entertainment is launching worldwide sales at the American Film Market on two new slasher features that complete its “Butchers Trilogy” horror project.

The global film sales and U.S. domestic distributor has greenlit production on “Butchers Book Three: Bonesaw,”which is due to go into production this fall in Canada. The second title in the trilogy, “Butchers Book Two: Raghorn,” is currently in post-production.

Blue Fox will debut first-look footage of “Raghorn” for buyers at the Santa Monica market, whilst handling worldwide sales on all three films.

The trilogy is being produced and distributed through Blue Fox’s Red Hound Entertainment label. Grimehouse and NW9 Productions are also producing.

“Most Hollywood producers can only dream about creating a top notch trilogy that will entertain fans around the world. Together with Adrian and Doug, we have done just that,” said Blue Fox’s James Huntsman.

This Sunday morning saw the arrival of the UK premiere for The Railway Children Return, the long-awaited sequel to The Railway Children. A Tiger King sequel is coming to Netflix this year as part of a new true crime line-up of documentaries to be released.

Although the streamer announced the project on Thursday, it is as yet unknown what the angle for Tiger King 2 will be. The first installment profiled wildcat owners with a focus on Joe Exotic (Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage), the former owner of the G.W. Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for his crimes against his animals and his role in a murder for hire plot against his nemesis Carole Baskin.

Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin will re-team as directors and executive producers; Chris Smith and Fisher Stevens will also serve as EPs. It is being produced by A Goode Films Production in association with Library Films and Article 19 Films.

Goode and Chaiklin have remained connected with Exotic since he began serving his sentence.

Will tabloid true-crime lightning strike twice? Netflix is about to find out, as the company announced Thursday that “Tiger King 2” is coming to the service sometime before the end of 2021.

It’s the first of five new true-crime docuseries heading to Netflix over the next year, which the company says will focus on “cons, scams and cautionary tales.”

The streamer was shy on specifics about “Tiger King 2,” though directors Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin are returning along with producers Chris Smith, Fisher Stevens, Goode and Chaiklin. The series will likely continue the wild tale of Joe Exotic — and his ultimately fruitless attempts to win a pardon from former President Donald Trump — and Carole Baskin, the rival private zookeeper whom Exotic was convicted or trying to have murdered.

More than 50 years after the original, popular children’s movie The Railway Children is getting a sequel, with original cast member Jenny Agutter returning.

She will star alongside Sheridan Smith, Tom Courtenay and a new generation of the titular ‘railway children’.

Morgan Matthews (X+Y) is directing the picture, Jemma Rodgers is producing for Studiocanal, which owns the rights to the original. Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic) has written the screenplay.

The sequel will follow a group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during the Second World War, where they encounter a young soldier who, like them, is far away from home. Shooting kicks off May 10. Studiocanal has dated the pic for theatrical release in the UK on April 1, 2022.

Nominations have been unveiled for the 48th edition of the Grierson Awards, the UK’s top documentary awards.

A total of 52 films are nominated across 14 categories. Of those, 21 were broadcast on BBC channel, while Netflix has nine nominations and Channel 4 has five. ITV and Al Jazeera have two apiece whilst nominations newcomer YouTube Originals joins Channel 5, National Geographic and Discovery with one each.

Tiger King is up for Best Entertaining Documentary alongside fellow Netflix title Love is Blind. Netflix’s Don’t F**k With Cats and The Devil Next Door are also both up for Best Documentary series.

The Best Cinema Documentary nominees are American Factory, which won the Oscar this year, alongside the Oscar nominated Honeyland and For Sama, with Midnight Family completing the field.

Exclusive: The BBC and HBO are co-producing a feature-length documentary on the unsolved mystery of plane hijacker D.B. Cooper, nearly 50 years after he vanished without a trace in 1971.

The Mystery Of D.B. Cooper is helmed by John Dower — an Emmy-nominated director who made Louis Theroux film My Scientology Movie — and the producer is Minnow Films, which has won BAFTAs for documentaries including 7/7: One Day in London and The Detectives.

The film seeks to unravel the mystery surrounding D.B. Cooper, who boarded a Northwest Orient Airlines plane in November 1971 and hijacked the flight while it was still on the tarmac. He claimed to have a bomb in his briefcase and demanded four parachutes and $200,000, which he exchanged for the 36 passengers on board.

Actors leave their shows for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes they have another role they want to pursue. Sometimes it is about the show; actors do not always like the roles they play or the people they work with.

Sometimes they leave for personal reasons such as to be with their families. And sometimes, as with the recently late and great Luke Perry, they leave the show because they have left this world behind.
