Steven attended Winchester University where he received his degree in Theatre Studies. It was the same course he attempted to get on when left school, but because he was working full time as a bouncer he was told he wouldn't be able to devote the time to the course as the other students were funded by their parents. A lost decade ensued where he drifted in an out of every employment going but he was unable to settle as he wasn't following his passion of cinema. After gaining his degree he wrote and staged his play Doorways, based on his 20 years experience as a bouncer and soldier. He was then fortunate enough to win a writing scholarship with The National Theatre and an acting one with New York Film Academy. He needed to save funds in to live in New York for two years so he bought himself a taxi to work all the hours he could and entered a cage fighting tournament for a prize of £5,000 but unfortunately he broke his leg. But every cloud has a silver lining and this inspired him to turn Doorways into a feature film himself, even though he had no experience of film making and no cash. He raised money locally and sold his taxi, adapted the script and directed it himself only because he couldn't afford a director. It was a self given apprenticeship, with only his love of cinema as a guide. He then went on to make his second feature, from his original screenplay, the same way writing, acting, co-producing and directing. He is now in post production of his third feature Relentless which has already won several awards.
After Relentless l was let down by several so called producers to produce our screenplay to SKULL HUNTER. Se7en meets TAXI DRIVER.
So in the meantime I saw the BBC Writer's Room were looking for 1/2 hour comedy/drama episodes. I wrote 1 episode, which led to a 6 part series. Then l thought I'd produce the pilot episode myself, of HAPPY HOURS. An ensemble piece, based around a run down pub.
I then managed to get a security job in Cannes at the RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL party. During my time there l managed to secure funding for SKULL HUNTER. The first time I've never had to fund the films myself by selling possessions and cage fighting.
Now its complete and we are arranging the premiere.
