Abramorama has debuted a trailer for Cosplay Universe, a cosplay documentary now set to finally open in July this summer. This originally premiered way back in 2018 at the Culver City Film Festival, but has never been released since then. It was made so long ago they actually got a Stan Lee interview before he passed away in 2018. Cosplay Universe gives viewers a window into the ever evolving world of cosplay. What started in Japan as a subculture defined by a communal love of anime, has become a worldwide phenomenon. The film captures the magical personal transformation that occurs which allows cosplayers to step outside themselves and become their own hero. With appearances by comic book legend Stan Lee, cosplay superstars Yaya Han and Jessica Nigri, and many more.

Rooster Teeth-run Rtx has announced its first powerhouse guests for this year’s convention: YouTube stars Philip DeFranco and ProZD.

DeFranco runs the daily YouTube-based Philip DeFranco Show, where he takes a look at current events on YouTube and beyond. He’s amassed more than 6.4 million subscribers on the platform. ProZD (aka SungWon Cho) is a professional voice actor who is responsible for characters in popular shows like Red vs. Blue and Crunchyroll’s Anime Crimes Division. On YouTube, where he has 1.8 million subscribers, he’s best known for his excellently nerdy comedy skits — and has also appeared a number of times on Rooster Teeth channel Achievement Hunter (1.6 million subscribers).

Last year’s Rtx, which brought in popular YouTube stars Boogie2988, Smosh Games, and Jessica Nigri as guests, saw more than 65,000 attendees, Rooster Teeth said in a press release. Presumably, fans planning to head to Austin, Tx., for this year...

As the VidCon madness subsides, Rtx Austin is fast approaching -- and the Rooster Teeth-run convention has unveiled this year's headliners.

This year’s event will be headlined by YouTube gaming vet Boogie2988; the Smosh Games crew; cosplay artist and Rwby voice actress Jessica Nigri; Drawfee, who will host an interactive comedy drawing series; voice actor Troy Baker; and pro Overwatch team the Houston Outlaws. In addition to the above guests, Rooster Teeth will also host its third annual Animation Festival during Rtx, with screenings and panels featuring Titmouse, Mondo Media, Studio Yotta, Mashed, and Machinima.

Kew Media Group has added three titles to its slate ahead of next week’s European Film Market (Efm), acquiring worldwide sales rights for Painkillers, I, Dolours and Cosplay Universe.

Painkillers is a genre-busting thriller starring Adam Huss (Power) and Madeline Zima (Californication, The Sixth Sense), directed by Roxy Shih (The Tribe).

I, Dolours is a documentary portrait of militant Ira activist Dolours Price from footage that couldn’t be broadcast in her lifetime, directed by Maurice Sweeney (Saving The Titanic).

Cosplay Universe is an insider view on the cosplay/Comic-Con industry, featuring prominent figures such as Stan Lee and cosplayers Yaya Han and Jessica Nigri.

Austin, Texas-based digital studio Rooster Teeth is bringing back its hit series, Million Dollars, But…, for a fourth season. Set to premiere on March 27, influencers Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, Phil DeFranco, and the cosplayer Jessica Nigri will serve as guest stars alongside series regulars Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, and Barbara Dunkelman.

In Million Dollars, But…, players posit fictional, absurd situations to see what they would or wouldn’t do for $1 million. For instance: “You get a million dollars, but every time you sneeze, you teleport to a random place in the world.” Then, these scenarios are envisioned onscreen to great comedic effect. The fourth season of Million Dollars, But… will premiere on Rooster Teeth’s Svod platform, First -- which it says counts 200,000 subscribers -- beginning on March 27, before rolling out to YouTube and other free services.

Most of you are familiar with Jessica Nigri's work, but if not, there is no better place to start than her sleek and quite sexy take on the X-Men's number one nemesis (when he isn't, you know, on the team itself), Magneto. The photo above is my favorite, closely followed by the floating shot featured below, and both of those (and the one in between) were done by the fantastic Larry Alan Photography. 

They've actually been working together for about 3 years, so to commemorate that they have released a 150 page photography book, which collects some of their current and past work, and it's titled simply Nigri. If you're interested in grabbing it, you can find it on their store envy page here. Even if you don't grab the book, make sure to check out some of their other work, as it is all quite stellar indeed.

Updated for 2014, the best of cosplay has 15 new cosplay photos and 15 from last year that haven't been topped.

There have been many versions of Supergirl, but the one constant is youth and optimism. Unlike her cousin Superman who grows up with his super abilities, Kara Zor-El does not get her abilities until she's on earth. So she remembers what it's like to just be an ordinary person. She's often drawn with a huge grin. If I suddenly had superpowers, I'm sure I would too.

Before we enjoy Jessica's cospaly, I wanted to bring to your attention something that happened on an episode of SyFy‘s Heroes of Cosplay. A "reality" show that follows stars of the cosplay community from one comic book convention to the next as the cosplayers quickly create elaborate costumes for each event. Sadly, the show is light on reality, and heavy on the manufactured drama. In the second episode, Yaya Han, who is a judge on the show and a world class cosplayer, said, "I think Jessica (Nigri) and I approach cosplay from different angles. For me it's all about the craftsmanship, really paying a lot of attention to detail. The content that Jessica Nigri puts out really displays cosplay in the wrong light. You probably know Jessica Nigri from her many Lollipop Chainsaw Cosplays, but recently, in conjunction with Larry Alan Photography, she has taken on Ubisoft's Assassins Creed. As a result we have a really beautifully photographed cosplay shoot starring Jessica's take on Connor, star of Assassins Creed 3. Jessica is an attractive woman, but what I like most about these photos is how stunning they are without being gratuitous. The costume is a cool stylized take on Connor's wardrobe from the game, though my favorite part about it might just be the tomahawk (the nice detailing on the hood is a close runner up though).

Warner Bros. has announced the North American release of Lollipop Chainsaw for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We have the official press release and previous coverage links, along with photos and a write-up from the Lollipop Chainsaw release party:

“Burbank, Calif., Jun 12, 2012 — Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Kadokawa Games today announced the release of Lollipop Chainsaw, an over-the-top action game for the PlayStation(R)3 system and the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, led by Goichi Suda (SUDA51), Lollipop Chainsaw is the ‘un-deadly’ story of sweet, chainsaw-wielding zombie hunter Juliet Starling. On her 18th birthday, Juliet must uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. She slices and dices her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill her.

Texas Frightmare Weekend, which ran May 4-6, 2012, now bills itself as the premier con in the Southwest, and as our event report will attest, that's definitely accurate. This year the guest list was massive, around 20 films were screened, and a Carrie-themed prom was held. The film list alone was bigger than many film festivals.

Folks, we can just drop the pretenses and say what everyone should know by now: Texas is The mecca for horror in the United States.

More goes on in the horror world right here in the Lone Star State every day than anywhere else. We've got countless filmmakers, crew, writers, musicians, models, photographers, and yes, even journalists working in the horror genre than anywhere else. Period.

We also now have a massive convention every year. Texas Frightmare Weekend was always a great con, but with its new digs at the Hyatt Regency Dfw, it's expanded to extreme size.
