Aubrey Plaza had some fun with her fashion on the red carpet at the Megalopolis premiere!
The 40-year-old actress received some help with her hat from co-star Dustin Hoffman, 87, while walking the carpet at the event on Monday night (September 23) at AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City.
Also in attendance at the event were director Francis Ford Coppola and co-stars Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, D.B. Sweeney, Isabelle Kusman, and Neri Oxman.
Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose...

Shonda Rhimes, Michelle Monaghan, Chloe Fineman and Camila Alves McConaughey were among the front-row attendees for the debut of Wes Gordon’s Spring 2025 collection for Carolina Herrera — each is a terrific example of the smart, stylish women who have loved this label since Mrs. Herrera founded her house in 1981.
Gordon, who signed on as the brand’s creative director in 2018, remains an outstanding custodian of the Herrera DNA, which he balances with his thoughtful attention to detail and an aesthetic that appeals to chic fans in every age bracket (that latter feat is much harder than it sounds, but every CEO of a heritage brand will say it’s vital to a brand’s long-term success).
Taking place Monday morning at 28 Liberty Street in New York’s Financial District, Gordon said his Spring 2025 collection was all about precision and balance. “When there are too many tricks and too much noise,...

The fun news that Saturday Night Live hired three new comics yesterday was dampened by another casting surprise — the departure of last year’s new featured player, Chloe Troast. While few were surprised by the exits of Punkie Johnson (she had struggled to break through for four seasons) and Molly Kearney, Troast showed tremendous promise in sketches that featured her powerful singing voice and offbeat comic sensibilities.
While Johnson and Kearney were vague about the reason behind their departures, Troast made it clear in her Instagram post that the decision was not hers. “Unfortunately i was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish I was going to be back with all the amazing friends i made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards.”
Current and former Saturday Night Live cast members responded with kindness.

Lionsgate quickly seeks to rectify their controversial marketing blunder from a couple of weeks ago. The upcoming epic fantasy film from Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis, is certainly building an interesting buzz. Coppola, a filmmaker with an outside-the-box vision, made a film that studios couldn’t figure out how to promote to a mainstream audience. Lionsgate got the distribution deal and attempted to stay ahead of the negative word-of-mouth by releasing a trailer that featured alleged harsh quotes from critics when Coppola’s beloved past films had come out.
The studio was quickly called out for manifesting these quotes used in the trailer an pulled it from their official outlets. Lionsgate would also issue an apology. “Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for Megalopolis,” said a Lionsgate spokesperson. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process.

The excitement of Megalopolis‘ theatrical trailer was first buoyed by a stance against critical myopia that was then undermined by said myopia being fake. With that AI-related snafu out of the way, the film is just a few weeks from release, and with IMAX tickets now on-sale for a September 23 preview there’s an updated preview.
Starring Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman, Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero,...

“Megalopolis” just might be the film with the biggest hype and mystery this fall season…
After debuting at Cannes, the self-funded feature from auteur Francis Ford Coppola has had quite the media frenzy. First, the film was plagued by rumors of a chaotic set. Then, Coppola was accused of kissing extras against their will. Coppola has denied both allegations.
And then the first trailer that was released to promote the film included fake quotes from iconic critics seemingly created by an AI chatbot. Distributor Lionsgate issued an apology, telling IndieWire, “we screwed up.”
Now, we’re getting a new and fully sanctioned look at “Megalopolis.”
Adam Driver leads the film as a pseudo alter-ego of writer/director Coppola, playing an architect who envisions saving his corrupt city and transforming the metropolis into a utopia. Meanwhile, the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) clashes with Driver’s character, just as the mayor...

Megalopolis filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola said the upcoming epic purposefully cast actors who were “canceled” because he didn’t want his film to be written off as “some woke Hollywood production.”
Though the road to the film’s Sept. 27 release by Lionsgate has not been estranged from controversy — from divisive critical opinion at the Cannes premiere in May to reports of on-set departmental disagreements — Coppola told Rolling Stone in a new interview that he hopes it will commence a conversation.
“What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production that’s simply lecturing viewers,” the Apocalypse Now director said. “The cast features people who were canceled at one point or another. There were people who are arch conservatives and others who are extremely politically progressive. But we were all working on one film together. That was interesting, I thought.”

Lionsgate is pulling the trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” that was released this morning after the internet observed that quotes about older Coppola films like “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” as attributed to film critics like Pauline Kael, Andrew Sarris, Roger Ebert, and more, all appeared to be fabricated.
“Lionsgate is immediately recalling our trailer for ‘Megalopolis,'” a spokesman for the company said in a statement provided to IndieWire. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. If there’s a way to spin some less-than-stellar early word of mouth, this is a pretty unique way to do it. Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious new vision, Megalopolis, is set to bestow upon us in a few weeks and the marketing has chosen to lean into the potentially off-putting quotes from sources who found the film to be underwhelming. Early reviews for Coppola’s self-financed film have been divisive with quotes that say it’s “windy and overstuffed, frequently baffling and way too talky.” However, the critiques have usually paired some positive views, saying it’s also “often amusing, playful, visually stunning, and illuminated by a touching hope for humanity.” The eccentric marketing for the film has now jump started and the marketing department has been tasked by Coppola to “implement specialty marketing, word-of-mouth, and non-traditional theatrical distribution initiatives targeting moviegoers.”

Finally, audiences are getting more than just a glimpse at “Megalopolis.”
The self-funded feature from auteur Francis Ford Coppola has been rife with on-set production rumors, ranging from a below-the-line exodus to allegations of Coppola kissing extras against their will. The sprawling ensemble film, which debuted at Cannes, is now almost in theaters for the world to witness its unhinged storyline and effects.
Adam Driver leads the film as a pseudo alter-ego of writer/director Coppola. The Oscar-nominated actor plays an architect who envisions saving his corrupt city and transforming the metropolis into a utopia. Meanwhile, the city’s mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) clashes with Driver’s character, just as the mayor’s daughter (Nathalie Emmanuel) becomes romantically entangled with him.
Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, D.B. Sweeney, Jason Schwartzman, Baily Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar co-star.

Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis, is set to hit theaters in a matter of weeks and part of the distribution deal of his self-financed film included that he would also take control of marketing. According to World of Reel, the Godfather director has hired the company Utopia to help him out and is said they were told to “implement specialty marketing, word-of-mouth, and non-traditional theatrical distribution initiatives targeting moviegoers.”
This eccentric brand of viral marketing has started to form on social media as the official film’s account amusingly inquired if they could quote a user’s bewildered comment as part of the marketing of the film.
However, in the more traditional manner, the studio has also released a new poster for the film, which you can view below:

When the “Saturday Night Live” hair and makeup departments are brought a skit for that upcoming weekend, they usually have around two days to form an idea of what they want to do with the actors involved, make it into something tangible and execute it.
And then, it needs to all come off and be swapped out, just minutes before the next sketch.
Hair department head Jodi Mancuso and makeup department head Louie Zakarian work in tandem to ensure guests and cast members on the show are prepped and ready to go for the night.
“It’s very trusting,” Mancuso says of their work together. “If [the team] says Louie needs to paint the wig, I’m like, ‘Go ahead.’ I have full trust. That normally doesn’t happen everywhere…what we do, most people don’t understand it. Our stuff only has to last three minutes, and then it can completely fall apart.

One day after Punkie Johnson confirmed she would not be returning to “Saturday Night Live” for its upcoming 50th season, another cast member has exited the series.

Before the milestone 50th season of "Saturday Night Live" begins, it seems like the late night sketch series is having trouble holding onto its most diverse cast members. Hot on the heels of the departure of comedian Punkie Johnson, the show's first openly queer Black woman to ever be in the cast, Molly Kearney has officially announced that they're leaving "SNL." Kearney became the show's first nonbinary cast member, joining the series at the beginning of season 48 along with Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
In a post to Instagram on Friday, Kearney accompanied several photos from behind the scenes of "SNL" with this sentiment:

Keagan Karnes makes his directorial debut for the project from a screenplay by Mary Haarmeyer and Stafford Douglas.
According to Deadline, Brewmance “follows Amber, a headstrong brewery owner and Samuel, a slick marketing strategist, who clash over how to save her failing business. But as they stir up a plan to reinvent the brewery, they unexpectedly ferment their own love story.”
Amber? Samuel? I see what you did there.
Other cast members coming to clink glasses with Moffat and McMann include Steven Ogg, Zoe Colletti, Jamey Maurice Clay (Santa’s Cousin), Caroline Kingsley (The Violet Hour), Kirk Roos (Santa’s Cousin), and Joel de la Fuenta (Man in the High Castle). Ryan Gosling‘s episode of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” from April instantly went viral, thanks in no small part to his habit of laughing during many (all?) of his sketches. “Beavis and Butt-Head” with Mikey Day, “Close Encounter Cold Open” with Kate McKinnon, “The Engagement” with Andrew Dismukes, “Doctor” with Bowen Yang, “Erin Brockovich” with Chloe Fineman … the list goes on and on. Gosling has now been nominated for his first-ever Emmy nomination in the category of Best Comedy Guest Actor, which begs the question: Can he giggle his way all the way to the winner’s podium?
Gosling’s co-nominees this year are Jon Bernthal (“The Bear”), Matthew Broderick (“Only Murders in the Building”), Christopher Lloyd (“Hacks”), Bob Odenkirk (“The Bear”) and Will Poulter (“The Bear”). Illumination and Universal’s Minions franchise isn’t getting any worse for the wear as Despicable Me 4 rules the Fourth of July box office with an estimated five-day opening of $120 million, including a three-day weekend haul of $72.4 million.
That’s in line with expectations and a strong start for the fourth outing in the main franchise, and the sixth in the Despicable Me/Minions series, which ranks as the top-grossing animated franchise of all time.
The first Despicable Me opened over the July 9-11 weekend in 2010 to $56 million. The series then shifted its release earlier and became a Fourth of July staple. 2013’s Despicable Me 2 likewise opened on July 3, a Wednesday, and posted a five-day debut of $143 million. That was followed by a $120 million five-day holiday start for the threequel in 2017.

Illumination and Universal’s “Despicable Me 4” is poised to light up the box office this Fourth of July weekend, with industry projections suggesting a potentially massive opening. The fourth installment in the main franchise and sixth in the overall Despicable Me/Minions series is expected to continue the franchise’s tradition of holiday success.
Early estimates from various sources indicate a strong performance for the animated feature:
A five-day holiday debut ranging from $110-$135 million, including $70-$85 million for the traditional three-day weekend. Potential for a $28 million opening day (Wednesday). Worldwide three-day opening projections between $140-$190 million. Total global earnings could approach $200 million when including overseas markets where the film has already opened.
These numbers align with the franchise’s previous July 4th performances. “Despicable Me 2” (2013) opened to a five-day total of $143 million, while “Despicable Me 3” (2017) started with $120 million over five days.

As we approach the big extended (four days) holiday weekend the big Summer movie season dashes past its halfway point with a new entry in a fourteen-year-old film franchise. No big surprise, but this one is hoping to “ride the wave” generated by a sequel that caused an unexpected near-seismic tsunami at the box office, only a few weeks ago. Oh, did I mention that both flicks are animated? Yes, Inside Out 2 exceeded all the financial forecasters to be the first billion-dollar movie of 2024. So, will “lightning strike” again, as this is the first installment of the series in seven years, not counting a couple of prequel spin-offs. Perhaps Gru and his gang, including lotsa’ manic Minions, can lure some families at the multiplex away from another visit in Riley’s noggin with Despicable Me 4.

When he learned that Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis had secured a distribution deal with Lionsgate, Giancarlo Esposito was obviously stoked because it meant the highly-publicized passion project would have a chance to reach audiences beginning Sept. 27.
But he “specifically” was very excited for Coppola, who has shepherded the project since the 1970s and wound up putting a chunk of his personal fortune into the $120 million film to eventually make it happen (despite some challenges along the way). “He taught me how to be courageous,” Esposito told The Hollywood Reporter at the world premiere of MaXXXine on June 24. “He taught me to not ever give up, keep following through and put your money where your mouth is; have skin in the game.”

Despicable Me 4Image: Illumination & Universal Pictures
It’s hard not to approach reviewing Despicable Me 4 with anything other than a sense of futility. Illumination Studios seems to have cracked the code for mainstream blockbuster success, not by being any good, but by being merely “Good Enough.” Good Enough distracts even the shortest attention spans.

In Despicable Me 4, the latest installment of Illumination Studio’s popular franchise, Gru (a winning Steve Carell) confronts the subtle villainy of suburban life. There’s something about the charmed aesthetics of Mayflower that doesn’t sit right. Maybe it’s the near-identical cottage-style homes, all painted the same shade of eggshell white and retrofitted with pristine pools; or perhaps it’s the residents, a wealthy and entitled bunch bent on excluding the unfamiliar. Whatever the reason, the vibes are certainly off.
Directed by Chris Renaud from a screenplay by The White Lotus creator Mike White and franchise stalwart Ken Daurio, Despicable Me 4 is a reliable follow-up for this financially dependable series. A new setting, new villain and new characters, including Gru and Lucy’s newborn Gru Jr., serve up enough fun and antics that will satisfy existing fans. The plot can sometimes feel like a chaotic melange stretched too thin,...

For nearly 15 years, the Minions have been gracing the silver screen, dating back to the original "Despicable Me" in 2010. In the years since, a multi-billion-dollar industry has sprung up around the little troublemakers, from anchoring Illumination's slate of animation to tons of merchandise; they're basically little yellow pieces of gold. The Minions are set to once again prove their worth as "Despicable Me 4" will open in theaters just in time for the Fourth of July holiday. With the help of Steve Carrell's Gru, we are likely going to see one of the year's biggest box office debuts.
"Despicable Me 4" will hit theaters on Wednesday, July 3. Universal Pictures is releasing it mid-week to get in on the long holiday weekend. Across the five-day Wednesday to Sunday stretch, the film is expected to pull in at least $100 million, per Deadline. That is pretty much in line with more recent industry estimates,...
