Shedrick Cortez Stokes joined the film industry over 20 years ago. He worked for 16 years with CBS and ABC local affiliates in Houston, Texas. As a cinematographer, he always had the desire to make his own films but just hadn't found one that resonated. He felt his films should have a strong message and purpose in addition to the entertainment quality. This need being an expression of the person Shedrick is inside and his desire to give back, reached all avenues of his life. In 2000, Shedrick decided to leave television and joined the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
In 2008, he met Rebecca Shepherd. A woman who had just finished writing a book about her own cancer diagnosis and the journey her mother took with her, also being diagnosed with cancer. Rebecca was simply working to spread cancer awareness and was giving away her book. The story and connection he felt pushed him to set out on the journey to make a film.
Shedrick and author, Norman Fitz took Rebecca's story and expanded it to include a diverse cast of all races, ages and gender. The story of a man with breast cancer and other true stories throughout his community, Joy in the Morning became a work of love.
Shedrick knew this project should be a work of love created by many and offered opportunities for others to participate and have a place in the production. A man of genuine love for his community, Shedrick has found the right channel for serving his community. Full of passion, dedication and a steadfast drive to help others, his goals are realized in film.
Subsequently, SCS Films was created. Their objective, to provide a strong voice and wide audience to people with extra-ordinary messages. A film maker with great heart, Shedrick continues to help others far and wide through his work.
