Yared Gebrekidan (born January 1st 1985) is Canadian film director, screenwriter and producer. His passion for film started during his high school years. His avid interest in film production developed into a career. He moved from Ethiopia to Vancouver, Canada in 2004 to attend Vancouver Film School full time and completed his diploma in 2006. Since then, Yared has written and directed feature films, independent short films, commercials and music videos.
Yared had recently reached the Quarterfinals of the 4th Annual Stage 32 Sci-Fi/Fantasy Screenwriting Contest for his new script "Dread". He has also written three other feature length screenplay such as "Heart Jumpers", "King Tewdros" and "The Remenant". In 2019, Yared won two awards and was nominated twice for Best Storyteller Best Director and Best Eye at California Music Video Festival, Charlotte Film Festival and Global Music Video Festival. Yared has been featured as young talented director issued in 2013 on Shine on Hollywood Magazin.
As a Writer and Director, He is constantly creating and collaborating with other talented individuals in the industry. His experience aligns well with the qualifications as Film and TV Director. With more than 13 years' experience, he adept in script writing, editing, team leading and of course Directing. Moreover, his on-the-job experience has afforded him a well-rounded skill set.
