American actor and writer, Matthew Maurice Garcia was born on February 13, 1984, in Ventura, California. His mother, Angela Garcia, is a private school kindergarten teacher and father, Paul Garcia, is a small business owner of over 25 years in Santa Paula, California. He has two younger sisters, Amber and Noelle.
Matthew M. Garcia had grown up in the church performing various plays and skits from a young age, but did not realize the fulfillment he got from acting until high school. He was a freshman at Saint Bonaventure High School when his drama teacher told him he should try out for the school play. He was one of only two freshman cast in the Chekhov and Simon play "The Good Doctor", and has been performing in some capacity ever since. After the plays run, he joined an after school improvisation club and continued to practice throughout high school. He then attended U.C. Riverside, and studied as an English major, then moved up to Santa Barbara where he was an on-air radio D.J. known as "Matt Havoc" on 92.9 KJEE for many years. Following his passion for performing he moved back to Ventura and joined the Ventura Improv Company and took classes as the Rubicon theater, among other learning from various instructors.
During this time, Matthew would drive to Los Angeles and audition regularly, which is when he booked his first online Crest commercial as a surfing boyfriend. Using the money he got from that job, he bought equipment to start a Youtube channel. His passion was with acting and the film industry, so he created a comedic movie review channel on Youtube, "Movie Rant Matt", which he used as a creative outlet to try out new and unique characters, and to learn more behind the camera techniques. Through his channel, he eventually booked his first role on the New Zealand and Sons produced Amazon Prime series, "Private Sales" in which he played a series regular, Jeremy.
Motivated by this and fearing his creativity would plateau if he stayed in his hometown, Matthew then moved to Culver City, Los Angeles with actor and writer, Ben Kliewer, which he had met on set years before, and his college friend, Michael Joe, who was studying as a director of photography. He then got in contact with writer Thomas Zayas who had been a long time friend from Ventura and had moved to Los Angeles a year before. Separately and collectively they have since starred and collaborated in various plays, commercials, television shows, and films as actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, and writers.
Matthew lives in Los Angeles county with his girlfriend, Courtney Marie.
