Created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner, Scavengers Reign is an adult animated series about a crew who crash land on a strange and beautiful, but inherently dangerous, planet. While stranded there, they take measures to survive and find each other. But out in the elements of the alien wilderness, they each uncover both the stunning, vibrant mysteries the world has to offer as well as the dangerous, more malevolent forces of nature.

The series first premiered on Max in 2023 before being cancelled and moving to Netflix, where the team hoped they'd find a chance of a renewal. However, after many months on Netflix, the streamer has finally decided to pull the plug. Nowadays, moving to Netflix in hope of a renewal is a precarious move — Netflix can hardly keep many of its own shows on air for longer than a season, let alone someone else's.

It seems that ‘Scavengers Reign’ will not be getting a second season for now —neither Netflix nor Max will pick it up. The sad news was delivered by Joseph Bennett, the sci-fi series’ co-creator, on Instagram.

But Joseph also delivered some good news. Although season two of ‘Scavengers Reign’ is not currently happening, it has released a trailer anyway! Here is Joseph’s Instagram post:

Updated with latest: San Diego Comic-Con released the full schedule for its 2024 edition, which kicks off Thursday and runs July 25-28. The annual confab is officially centered at the San Diego Convention Center, but in reality it invades the city with its army of comics, genre, movie and TV fans and cosplayers looking for the latest news.

Following a sleepy Comic-Con last year thanks to the Hollywood strikes, this year is expected to return to its usual crazy, especially with Marvel Studios back in Hall H for a pair of events: a Thursday panel devoted to Deadpool & Wolverine on the same day it opens in theaters, and a Saturday evening showcase breaking down what’s going on the the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Other marquee film and TV series that have now set panels for Comic-Con include everything from Transformers One and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for Scavengers Reign fans over the last two months. First, the acclaimed animated sci-fi series was canceled by Max after one season. Then its first season got a non-exclusive second run on Netflix while remaining on Max, raising the possibility for more episodes if it does well at its new home.

But when Scavengers Reign debuted on Netflix May 31, it didn’t get the proverbial “Netflix boost” and did not break into the streamer’s weekly Top 10 rankings, dampening hopes for a Season 2 pickup.

Then this morning, Scavengers Reign landed an Emmy nomination in the very competitive, high-profile category of Outstanding Animated Program.

That would likely give the show a boost as Netflix makes its decisions based on cost vs.

Adult Swim is making a big return to San Diego Comic-Con this year, with a huge pirate-themed fan event lasting the whole week that, among other things, features the premiere of “Rick and Morty: The Anime” and “Common Side Effects,” Aew wrestlers and plenty more.

The “Adult Swim Pirate Parrrty” takes place 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. From Thursday, July 25 through Saturday July 27 on the green space at 5th Avenue Landing and Convention Way, right across the street from the convention center. And it’s fully open to the public, no Sdcc badge required.

Attendees will be able to take part in special giveaways, play custom games based on Adult Swim properties, DJ sets as well as special nighttime events:

On October 19, 2023, the first episodes of the sci-fi animated series Scavengers Reign by directors Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner premiered on Max.

The project grew from the short film Scavengers into a full-blown animated series about the crashed crew of a cargo ship. On a breathtakingly beautiful and carnivorous planet, the characters are forced to adapt to life alongside merciless parasitic organisms.

The great beauty of Scavengers Reign is that under the guise of a survival story, Bennett and Huettner offer an entire world structured like an unpredictable machine. The planet lives a life of its own – so enchanting and eerie that you can watch it endlessly.

The animated series is an unusual and exciting experience. With a minimum of dialogue, it asks a maximum of questions.

Scavengers Reign Was Canceled by Max, But Picked Up by Netflix

And if you have not yet set foot in uncharted territory, then...

Scavengers Reign will not continue on Max any longer.

The animated sci-fi series has been canceled by the streamer after one season. The first season will remain on Max, though it will also begin streaming on Netflix beginning May 31.

Scavengers Reign is about the surviving crew of a damaged deep space freighter who are stranded on a beautiful yet unforgiving planet. They begin to learn the true nature of this planet as they try to survive long enough to escape or be rescued.

Season 1 debuted on Max in October. The series is co-created and executive produced by animators, writers, and directors Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner. 

Benjy Brooke serves as supervising director; executive produced by Chris Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Shannon Prynoski, and Ben Kalina for Titmouse. Co-executive produced by Sean Buckelew and James Merrill for Green Street Pictures.

One of the producers on Max's Scavengers Reign gave fans an update on where they stand on a potential Season 2. 

Featuring an all-star cast consisting of the likes of Wunmi Mosaku (Loki) and Bob Stephenson (Jericho), the animated streaming series has been one of the surprise hits of the fall. 

Created by Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner, the show garnered multiple 10/10 reviews from outlets and currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans of science fiction have simultaneously seen something similar to Max’s new adult animated series Scavengers Reign and absolutely nothing like it before.

It’s a dichotomy that the show’s creative team leaned into when trying to create a world that houses a group of surviving crewmembers from the Demeter, a deep-space freighter ship damaged by a solar flare and stranded on a beautiful but terrifying planet. Separated and unaware the others have survived, each group — and in some cases a single individual — attempts to navigate and survive the hostile planet in hopes of eventual rescue.

Adult Swim has ordered half-hour comedy series Common Side Effects, from director-writer Joe Bennett and Steve Hely and executive produced by King of the Hill creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. The series, announced Friday at Annecy International Film Festival, “delves into the complex reactions to the revelations of the mysterious elixir of life”.
