If I wasn't acting I'd be a writer or director, which coincidentally is what I'm currently doing. I have such a passion to curate art I can't imagine not ever being involved in it somehow. I'm a huge advocate for creating your own work. Either that, or I would be a world explorer like Indiana Jones.

When I was thirteen, after school, I'd shovel horse manure for a neighbor. It's not as bad as it sounds though, on a good day I got to take the horses for a spin so it was actually a pretty great first job.

{Black Fly} I enjoy working, and doing what I do, so it was fun, but there were also days where it wasn't so fun because you have to get into a dark mind-set. I think it's important for actors and other artists to create work for themselves, and have as many fingers in the pot as possible. You can't wait for others. If I can control my career as much as possible then I want to be able to do that. For those who want to write all I can say is just write. I didn't take schooling for that particular aspect of my career. It's important to understand structure, but aside from that aspect of it, just write and your style will develop over time.

Many people forget that the acting business is just that, a business. It is important to be artistic but to also to understand the fiscal side. An artist that can manage and control both aspects is unstoppable.

[Leo Awards] I couldn't help but laugh when I learned that Matt and I were nominated together in both categories. We went through this crazy and exhilarating experience that was "Black Fly," and then onto "Roar" immediately afterwards. It seems only natural for us to cap it all off and go mano a mano at the Leos.

[on being so young, but yet successful] Your twenties aren't a time to party, it's a time to work and get ahead of everyone else who's partying. I started in this business when I was 14, which to me is 14 years too late. So in reality I have some catching up to do.

When you go to a theatre and you come out after finishing watching a movie and you say, 'Wow, the acting in that film was amazing!' you're insulting the actors because you're saying they didn't do their job well.

At the end of the day no matter where you come from or what field you're in, it takes hard work to succeed. I have such a drive to ensure that happens that I always keep myself motivated.

Acting isn't an art of 'faking,' it's the ability to bring a character to life, just like you and me are alive. 'Acting' is a terrible word to describe the art.

[on having two films premiere at VIFF together at the same time] It's cool to have something so different at the same festival, and for people to see two sides of me. This character [in Sitting on the edge of Marlene] is opposite from my Black Fly character because he hasn't experienced anything yet, he's a sheltered Christian boy.

[on working on Steven Spielberg's "Falling Skies"] Everyone was there; the cast, producers, director and writer, and everyone was excited and thrilled to be back, and I remember as I watched these actors I've seen growing up, like Noah Wyle, Doug Jones, Will Patton and Colin Cunningham, go through their scenes, my body began to tingle," explains Daulby.
