Macarena Astorga is a film director, screenwriter and directing and training assistant. She has a degree in Audiovisual Communication and Education Sciences from the University of Malaga. Since 2004 she has been a professor of Image and Sound at the IES Guadalpín de Marbella where she teaches at the Higher Cycle of Audiovisual Production and directs the Image and Sound Department at this educational center.
She has done different audiovisual works among which we can highlight the video Mujeres que dicen acción, about women directors of Spanish cinema of the nineties, or the documentary Voces contra el silencio with which she won several national and international awards.
In 2011 he directed the documentary Los ojos de Brahim, which made herself known in the national cinematographic scene, obtaining such important recognitions as the RTVA Award for the Best Andalusian Audiovisual Creation or the Biznaga de Plata at the XV Spanish Film Festival of Malaga. In 2012 she wrote and directed Tránsito, a short film that was also her debut in the genre of fiction, winning numerous awards such as the Biznaga de Plata for Best Short Film (Official Selection) at the Spanish Film Festival of Malaga, the RTVA Award, Best Short Film Andaluz, a nomination as one of the five best Andalusian short films ASECAN Award and a Selection to the Goya Awards for Best Short Film in 2014.
She has worked as an Assistant Director in the short film Last Memory, by Juan Luis Moreno Somé, and in the short film La pérdida, by Machu Latorre. As Director of Actors she has participated in the short film Leica story, by Raúl Mancilla.
In 2017 she directed the short film Marta no viene a cenar, starring Natalia de Molina and Celia de Molina that premiered in the 30th week of Cinema of Medina del Campo, within its Official Section. This is probably her biggest achievement in her career and it has made her won important awards and recognition in the national industry.
Her latest work has been the Renglones de luz, a fictional documentary about the life of Mother Socorro Astorga, who died in Archidona. For the future, she has started to prepare to direct El cielo de Madrid, her first feature film as a director, which will start shooting in January of 2020 hopefully.
