Filmmaker Sam Hargrave knew he would have to up the ante when it came to filming Netflix’s action sequel “Extraction 2.” The first film, which came out in 2020, contained a 12-minute sequence that included a car chase, gun battles, knife battles and plenty of explosions.

It was during early conversations with producer Joe Russo that the idea of a longer sequence came up. Says Hargrave, “Joe said, ‘It’d be cool if we opened the film with Tyler (Chris Hemsworth) extracting someone from a prison. Joe he wrote this into the script, ‘And thus follows the greatest oner in cinema history.’”

Hargrave devised a plan forward, and the result was a mind-blowing, 21-minute one-take sequence that sees black ops specialist Tyler Rake entering a prison to rescue the family of a violent gang member. You didn’t think we’d seen the last of Tyler Rake, did you?

The black-ops mercenary played by Chris Hemsworth was the hero of 2020’s Extraction, one of Netflix’s most watched movies ever. So it’s hardly a surprise that the tough-as-nails, macho character returns in the unimaginatively titled Extraction 2, reuniting the Thor actor with director Sam Hargrave and screenwriter Joe Russo (co-director with brother Anthony on four MCU entries, including two Avengers flicks) for another wildly over-the-top adventure based on Andre Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad.

Suffice it to say that if you enjoyed Extraction, you’ll have a fine time with this one, which, in typical franchise fashion, busts its butt attempting to outdo its predecessor. And it does, most notably in a “oner” action sequence designed to appear as if it were filmed in a single take that lasts 21 minutes, or nearly twice as long...

When we last left “Extraction” hero Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) he was, well, he was dead. He’d been beaten, shot multiple times, and tossed into a river, where he was presumably (again) dead. The first time for both in Manila, they were welcomed warmly and met press, influencers and fans over a two-day programme, which included a press conference and red carpet premiere for the film.

“I feel excited to be here. Thank you very much for the warm welcome,” Chris said at the press conference on June 5. Sam was equally thrilled to be in the country and expressed how proud he was of his follow-up film. “This is even bigger and larger and more exciting,” he said, referencing the sequel to one of the most watched films on Netflix.

The pair spoke about the standout scenes in the second film, one of which is a “oner” coming in at 21 minutes and 7 seconds.

If the first film introduced audiences to Rake as a seasoned action hero, Hargrave says the sequel aims to show how he got that way, and the toll it has taken on him and those close to him.

As the release date for “Extraction 2” gets closer, Netflix has unveiled a brand new trailer for the action sequel.

In previously released trailers, it’s understood that Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) has “fought his way back” after being “clinically dead nine months ago” following the events of the original 2020 action hit.

Now, the main trailer questions why — “You just have to find out why,” Nik Kahn (Golshifteh Farahani) tells Tyler. Khan is a Private Military Contractor and ally of Rake.

A new teaser trailer for Extraction 2, the sequel to Netflix’s action hit, answers at least one big question for fans of the original: Chris Hemsworth’s mercenary Tyler Rake is alive and well and ready for another black ops mission.

Extraction 2 brings back Rake, the Australian black ops mercenary who, it seems, barely survived the events of the first movie and is now tasked with a new mission – rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

In the original, we are introduced to Tyler Rake, a mercenary who had taken on the assignment of seeking and rescuing the kidnapped son of a prisoned, international crime lord. After being presumed dead at the end of Netflix’s first “Extraction” film, Chris Hemsworth is back (surprise!) as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake for another high-octane mission.

In the first trailer for “Extraction 2,” Hemsworth’s Rake is revealed to be alive, and he’s wasting no time getting back to action. He brutally beats people down with a riot shield in what appears to be a prison break, uses the shield to deflect a fiery molotov cocktail, then proceeds to punch rioters with his burning fist.

Director Sam Hargrave returns for the sequel, as do producers Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously teamed with Hemsworth on “Avengers: Endgame.” After making his directorial debut with the first “Extraction,” the follow-up is Hargrave’s second film. He previously worked as a stunt coordinator with the Russos on “Avengers: Endgame,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

This time he must rescue the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held. This looks like it has tons of crazy awesome action! Really enjoying that we get a making of look this early, before it's even released, giving us a taste of some of the massive set pieces they've been filming including that epic "oner" as well.
