Carla de Jong is Head of Commissioning and Development of Children's
Content for Australia's public broadcaster, ABC.
In this role, Carla is responsible for overseeing all production, development and commissioning of original content for children of all ages across three ABC channels, including ABC3 the dedicated children's channel and ABC 4 Kids, the newly launched preschool channel.
The current slate includes live-action and animated drama and comedy, entertainment and factual entertainment programs, game shows and hosted blocks for children aged 2-15 years.
Recent highlights include The Adventures of Figaro Pho, dirtgirlworld, Dance Academy, Prank Patrol (Australia), Zigby, Giggle and Hoot, Classic Tales, My Place, Scorpion Island, CJ the DJ, Dead Gorgeous and Studio 3.
Before joining the ABC, Carla spent two years at the BBC in London developing new programs for the BBC Children's department, two of which were the highly acclaimed Australian co-productions, Outback 8 and Barney's Barrier Reef.
Prior to her career in the UK Carla produced a number of award winning children's programmes for Network Ten in Australia including Totally Wild and SCOPE. Her work has been recognised both locally and internationally as a finalist in awards such as the Logies, AFI Awards, Kidscreen Awards, The Prix Jeunesse Awards and The United Nations World Environment Day Awards.
