Joseph Andrew McLean is a Scottish filmmaker, born in Glasgow on St. Andrew's Day.
Joseph has produced over 70 episodes of TV drama River City (2002) for BBC Studios.
He's produced and directed commercials, documentaries, music videos and short films including Michael Caton-Jones: This Broxburn Boy's Life, Car Sick (2023) and Cows, Cash & Cover-ups? Investigating VCJD (2019). He's also worked on a variety of Film and TV projects for the BBC, CNN, HBO, Sony and Netflix including Outlaw King (2018) and Succession (2018).
Joseph's short film Car Sick (2023) won the Rising Voices Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival along with several other awards and screening at festivals in the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA and Australia.
His documentary Locavore: Pigs in the Park (2014) won best short documentary at the 'Seattle Social Justice Film Festival' and was nominated for the Southside Filmmakers Award at the Southside Film Festival in Glasgow.
His documentary Cows, Cash & Cover-ups? Investigating VCJD (2019) screened at film festivals and also at the Frieze Art Exhibition (2019) and Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2019) in London. It is also streaming on Amazon Prime.
His music videos have featured in local and national press in the UK and screened at South by South West Festival in Texas.
Joseph graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA (Hons) 2:1 in English Literature and Politics.
He also studied screenwriting at the University of California under the guidance of Professor Marie Cartier and at the University of Strathclyde, under the guidance of Writer/Director Aileen Ritchie.
In 2011 he founded his own production company Partickular Films, they produce a variety of work including Commercials, Documentaries, Films and Music Videos.
