Learning the ropes through the camera department, Ruiz Masó has been mentored by distinguished cinematographers from all around, including Paul Maibaum, ASC, Denis Maloney, ASC, and Fernando Argüelles, ASC, AEC. The experience inspired him to become more involved, both outside and inside production. As a newcomer, he values education and opportunity, and promotes inclusion, tolerance, equality, and diversity. He has worked with non-profits like Kids in the Spotlight, InteRed, and the Red Cross, and has taught aspiring filmmakers as a senior lecturer at the Del-York Creative Academy in Lagos, Nigeria, and at NYFA in Los Angeles.
From an early age, he immersed himself in the art of photography, developing film in the darkroom and spending lots of hours capturing analog pictures. His early studies in still photography honed his skills to observe light, spaces, and characters. This fascination led him to graduate from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Audiovisual Communication, specializing in Film Production. He furthered his education specializing in Cinematography at Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC).
Recognized as one of American Cinematographer's 2019 Rising Stars by the ASC. Jordi is a member of the Spanish Society of Cinematographers (AEC), the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG), and IMAGO. He acknowledges that it is a great satisfaction and a huge privilege to receive recognition from such internationally prestigious institutions. Ruiz Masó is also honored to be part of the Academy of Television Arts & Science (ATAS) and the Catalan Cinema Academy (ACC).
Born in Figueres, a small town near Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Passport ready, his Hispanic/European-US citizenship provides a unique perspective, enabling him to work globally.
Fluent in English, Spanish, Catalan, and French, and with an understanding of Italian and Portuguese, Jordi is always ready for continued and new collaborations.
