It’s time for another episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re looking at Scream 4 (watch it Here), the one entry in the Scream franchise that had a surprising lack of success at the box office. The audience didn’t come back for this one, which was released eleven years after the previous film, but did return for the more recent sequels. To hear all about Scream 4 and its bad luck, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson – which received uncredited rewrites from Ehren Kruger and Paul Harris Boardman – Scream 4 has the following synopsis: It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott has written a self-help book.

The slasher film subgenre is often the black sheep of horror movies, typically focusing on cliché teenage characters getting hacked up with cheap jump scares sprinkled throughout. Then, the masked villain is "killed" at the end, only to be brought back in increasingly ridiculous ways in the sequels. Rinse and repeat. It's a tried and true formula that critics scoff at while audiences gobble it up. There is one slasher franchise, however, that is a cut above the rest. In 1996, Wes Craven's brilliant horror/comedy "Scream" revitalized and reinvented the genre. It offered up meta-commentary with scares and laughs in equal measure, with the added fun of being wrapped up in a whodunnit.
By slasher standards, the "Scream" franchise has mostly solid entries, with all of them sitting at a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With the sixth movie taking Ghostface on a mayhem-fueled trip through Manhattan, we thought...

Released eleven years ago, Scream 4 (watch it Here) was the last entry in the Scream franchise from director Wes Craven. We’ve heard some interesting stories about ideas that didn’t make it into Scream 4, like the fact that one version of the opening sequence would have had heroine Sidney Prescott killing a Ghostface slasher right at the start and that Kristen Stewart was asked to participate in the opening sequence that we see in the finished film. Now, during an interview with Hits Radio, Aubrey Plaza revealed that she auditioned for Scream 4 and messed up by getting too into the idea that she could play the killer.
Plaza explained, “One of the earlier auditions I had was for Wes Craven, for the Scream remake or something. They had told me, ‘You’re going in to audition to play a character that eventually you find out is the killer.

Star Wars, Terminator 2, Fantastic Beasts and more: they all have scenes in the trailer, that never made the final film...
More often than you might think, scenes that appear in movie trailer don’t turn up in the finished film. This can leave trailer-loving audience members confused as the credits roll, wondering if they dropped off and missed something important.
See related Iron Fist: what to expect from Marvel’s Netflix hero Luke Cage smashed Marvel's 2016 Netflix ratings Daredevil season 3: Vincent D’Onofrio mulls Fisk's return Marvel's The Defenders: more images arrive
A couple of massive movies have done this recently, and the internet has been quick to fill in the blanks with speculation. Fingers have been pointed at tinkering studio bigwigs and extensive reshoots, when the reality is often a little less dramatic: filmmakers always chop some footage in the edit, and they rarely have much involvement in the trailers.

For those holding on to the idea that Scream 5 might happen, Wes Craven took to Twitter to update his fans on Sunday. The director broke a rather long Twitter silence to inform his followers that he would try to provide more updates. Craven wrote: "No news on Scream 5 yet. You guys really want another one?" That film starred Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Marielle Jaffe, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Marley Shelton, Anthony Anderson, Adam Brody, Alison Brie, Mary McDonnell, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell and Brittany Roberts. The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu’s latest project is titled Scared of the Dark and is being developed by Ghost House Pictures. We’ve received some new casting and character information, and wanted to share it with our readers.
It was previously announced that Morgane Slemp and David Gallagher were cast in the film. The movie will center around Olivia (Slemp) and her boyfriend Adam (Gallagher), and the story is said to be similar in nature to The Grudge. Other actors that have joined the cast include Dawn of the Dead‘s Jake Weber playing the part of Olivia’s father, Chloé Auger playing a younger Olivia, and Yuya Ozeki (The Grudge series).
Although not yet cast in the film, we hear that producers have been looking at Marielle Jaffe for the role of Olivia’s sister and it is looking likely that Alison Lohman will join the cast as Adam’s sister.

Grudge / Ju-On director Takashi Shimizu has recently teamed up once again with Sam Raimi's Ghost House pictures for a new spine-tingler on Us soil. Yes, Scream 4 was a disaster at the box office, raking in only a fraction of its budget. Still, that's not stopping Dimension from taking to Twitter to start teasing a fifth entry into the franchise.
"How much do you love @Scream4? How badly do you want #Scream5? Come up with a clever tweet and we'll Rt!" challenged the official Dimension Films Twitter account.
Could be something. Could be nothing. It does, however, show that the franchise hasn't been shitcanned by the studio, and that's a good thing.
Stand by for news on when you can expect Scream 4 on Blu-ray and DVD.
Scream 4 stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Britt Robertson, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Mary McDonnell, Alison Brie, Anthony Anderson, Aimee Teegarden, and Marielle Jaffe with confirmed cameos by Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Shenae Grimes, and Lucy Hale.

And by "didn't see" we're talking about stuff that was changed in the final cut of the film and not stuff you just didn't bother going to the theatre to check out. Will we get an extended cut on Blu-ray? Given Scream 4's box office performance (or lack thereof) we'll find out soon enough.
Bloody Disgusting got word about exactly what was changed from an "insider" so take it with a grain of salt. Seems pretty accurate to us though. Dig it!
"The only glaring differences in the two films were the parking garage scene and the crime scene at the girls' home that died in the opening scene.
The parking garage scene was noticeably extended. In the cut we saw in the screening Sid's publicist is chased down in the parking garage after the call and killed. (We saw all these shots in the theatrical cut.) Therefore the...

For those of you who didn't make it to the theater over the weekend to see "Scream 4," stop reading now — we don't want to spoil anything! For everyone else, MTV News thought it would be fun to find out the cast's favorite death scenes in the new slasher pic, along with some technical insight from director Wes Craven.
And because there are so many gruesome offings from which to choose, the results of our little poll are all over the map, despite some persuasive campaigning by Anthony Anderson.
"I think the one that freaked me out the most, her name is Marielle in real life — Marielle's death," Emma Roberts said, choosing the bloody demise of Marielle Jaffe's character,...

Scream 4 Movie Delivered Laughs,Horror & a Shocking Twist. Dimension Films released their new horror flick "Scream 4" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was great. It featured good comedy, just enough gore, and an absolutely amazing twist that I just ,quite frankly, never saw coming. The movie stars: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Marielle Jaffe, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Marley Shelton, Anthony Anderson, Adam Brody, Alison Brie, Mary McDonnell, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, and Brittany Roberts. The movie revolved around,of course, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). She returned to her hometown of Woodsboro to do a book signing as she's now a famous author. She catches up with old friends Gale Weathers-Riley (Courtney Cox) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) who she lives with. Everything seems so pleasant and nice at first.

Erik Knudsen, Rory Culkin, Marielle Jaffe, Hayden Panettiere, Scream 4 As expected, Carlos Saldanha's animated 3D feature Rio topped the North American box office on Friday, April 15, earning $10.2m according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Rio features the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Rodrigo Santoro, Jane Lynch, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Mann, Jamie Foxx, George Lopez, and others. It seems likely that Rio's take will reach the expected $38m by Sunday evening. At no. 2, Wes Craven's Scream 4, featuring Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Hayden Panettiere, Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, and Emma Roberts, opened with $8m at 3,305 locations. That translated into an underwhelming — for the opening day of a horror flick belonging to a popular franchise — $2,421 per theater. Also in the Scream 4 cast: Rory Culkin, Mary McDonnell, Heather Graham, Adam Brody, Erik Knudsen, Dane Farwell, and Nico Tortorella. Despite 3D surcharges, [...]...

The Scream films work from a brilliant cheat that allows its lazy screenwriter, Kevin Williamson, to appear clever, when in fact he has no actual new ideas. He can recycle and rehash, and he can follow the bouncing ball as it travels down its well-worn groove, but as long as he announces his intentions before he follows through on them, the world (and audiences) will celebrate his ingenuity. It's like Babe Ruth standing at the plate and announcing to the crowd that he's about to strike out, and being roundly applauded when he follows through on the promise.
Having gutted the conventions of both the slasher films and the slasher sequels in the earlier Scream films, Kevin Williamson is left only to tackle the trends that have come along since the last Scream movie over a decade ago, namely torture porn and remakes. In the film's best scene (actually, a...

As a huge fan of the original Scream trilogy I’m happy report that Scream 4 was completely awesome! I was ecstatic when I heard a fourth Scream film was going to get made, and over the months I’ve built up the hype in my mind so much that my expectations for it were through the roof. I was so relieved that the film delivered on everyone of my expectations, I loved this movie and I had a hell of a fun time watching it.
I think nostalgia played a big part in how much I liked the movie because I thought it was great to see all the original characters back together again, fighting off the ghost face killer. Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox were all great up on the big screen again. It’s like the chemistry between the three actors never went away.

What's your favorite scary movie? Those now immortal words that birthed a horror franchise ten years ago have long been the trademark of the bloody slasher Ghostface, the eternal nemesis of heroine Sydney Prescott and her friends.
And now the progenitors of the series, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, have reunited to bring Ghostface to the next generation. And while millions have anticipated the return to Woodsboro, the ensuing violence, cliche-riffing humor, and twist ending, a single question remains: Is a ten-year old pop-horror icon capable of remaining both scary and relevant or is the entire production a watered down cliche' intended to cash in on the public's nostalgia for a dwindling market?
The Setup
Ten years have passed since the original Woodsboro Murders occurred and Sidney Prescott has left the life of a victim behind her. Having survived the machinations of her insane half-brother, her ex and his best friend,...

Scream 4
Directed by Wes Craven
Screenplay by Kevin Williamson
2011, USA
This isn’t a comedy, this is a horror movie. People live, People die, people run, but more importantly people scream in Wes Craven’s fourth installment. In horror’s most self-reflexive and in some ways most successful horror franchise, Scream 4 is bloodier, smarter, better and just plain scarier than all three before it. In an era of reboots and remakes, Scream 4 treats its fans with an entry as salient as the original. More importantly Scream 4 obeys the number one rule: “Don’t fuck with the original.”
Craven comments when addressed about meeting expectations, “You’re addressing a generation of young fans, but also a generation that has gone with you for three, as well as a decade worth of other films. You have to be as good as, or better than those films.” Luckily for fans intelligence,...
