Virginia Maria was born in São Gonçalo city in Rio de Janeiro state - Brazil. Graduated in Physical Education and Classical Acting,Virginia used her previous background as a artistic gymnast coach, dancer, singer, martial arts practitioner and Tai Chi Chuan instructor in order to build a solid interdisciplinary artistic career. Her performer experience includes names such as Bruno Beltrão(GRN), Cia. do Latão, Sérgio de Carvalho, Boal Institute, Zecora Ura, Christiane Jatahy and Dario Fo. Although she found this special and worthwhile, gaining much from the acting experience,she also discovered an interest in community theatre. As a result, alongside her acting career,Virginia also worked for four years as a facilitator and education coordinator for both São Gonçalo public schools and Associação Revivarte NGO in RiodeJaneiro. In both places, working with young people who lived in areas under the drug traffic influence.This led heart study for the MA Applied Theatre at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London which she completed, with Distinction, with final dissertation, entitled My Cyborg Revolution: What is the place of High Technology in Applied Theatre Practice? Virginia has a keen interest in working with music, acro yoga, dance, various groups, and in a wide variety of settings, exploring the issues of inter cultural collaboration, applied technology and human rights. As an academic, she hopes to apply her growing skills, creating new knowledge as a theatre maker.
