Amira Lumbly is an American actress born to a Jamaican-American mother who is a professional singer and teacher and an American father who was a boxer and computer programmer in Miami, FL. She was raised and home-schooled by her mother from Kindergarten to 8th grade and lived between Miami, FL, West Africa (Ghana and Senegal) and Saint Paul, MN throughout her teens.
While in high school in Minneapolis, MN, she joined and/or studied with local theatre companies such as Heart of the Beast Theatre, Jeune Lune and The Guthrie Theatre, eventually signing with a local modeling and talent agency to book gigs. After graduation, Amira moved to Orange, CA to attend Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. To gain a holistic perspective of the entertainment industry, she worked at several high profile management and production companies in Los Angeles.
After graduating with honors, Amira has dedicated herself to developing her craft and career as an actor in Los Angeles, CA. She has studied and coached at Howard Fine Studios, John Ruskin School of Acting, Playhouse West, Upright Citizen's Brigade and studied the teachings of Eric Morris.
Amira's ethnic background of primarily Afro-Caribbean and Chinese ancestry gives her a unique ambiguity that lends itself to her seamlessly portraying leading ladies in a wide range of genres and storylines. She is her own type.
