The Amazing Race family has lost one of its own as former competitor Jody Kelly has died. The former reality TV contestant was 85 years old. Competing in the CBS hit series’ 16th season in 2010, Kelly ran the race alongside her then 22-year-old granddaughter Shannon Foster. According to Deadline, Kelly died on September 5 in Bemidji, Minnesota, where she’d been attending a Spanish language immersion camp. Kelly hailed from Austin, Texas, and her death was initially reported by the Austin American-Statesman, with the paper detailing her sudden but peaceful death. Jody Kelly, who competed on The Amazing Race Season 16 in 2010, has died.
She was 85 years old.
The Austin-American Statesman reports that the competitor died "suddenly but peacefully" on September 5, 2023.
Kelly was born on January 21, 1938, in Opelika, Alabama, and was raised in Gainesville, Florida.
The reality TV star earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from Duke University in 1974.
She went on to teach at the University of Louisiana for 16 years.
Jody went on to study computer science and switched up her career after moving to Austin, Texas. In 1984, she became a technical writer at Ibm, Vignette, and Oriel Stat.
Jody taught writing for eleven years at Austin Community College and also published several books.
Feeling Good: Strength Training With Your Significant Elder was among the impressive titles.
She also wrote countless articles on sports and health for Austin Fit Magazine.

It took a while, but finally the complete and final 2010 Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago has been announced. Over 40 movies in every category from feature film to shorts, documentaries, dramas (such as Bilal’s Stand pictured), comedies and everything else in between. All the films will be screened at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago located at 164 N. State St in the heart of downtown Chicago.
Opening night is Friday August 6th and the festival continues throughout the month until Thursday Sept. 2 with a special advance screening of Tanya Hamilton’s Night Captures Us with Ms. Hamilton present. Of course I will be there too on most nights, so if you ever had the desire to punch me out for any of my articles on S & A now here’s your chance. (Not that I encourage it though…)
