Ilian Djevelekov was born in 1966 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He studied
Psychology at Sofia University and graduated in Film and TV Directing
from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. In 1993
his student film I Want To Be Free won the best short film award at the
Golden Rose Film Festival in Varna. From 1994 to 2000 he worked as
producer and director at Ku-Ku Film Company.
In 2001 Ilian Djevelekov together with Matey Konstantinov and Georgi Dimitrov founded the
production company Miramar Film which is now ranking among Bulgarian
top producers of features, documentaries and TV commercials. Ilian
Djevelekov is director and producer of tens of TV commercials and
documentaries. His last documentary Cuba is Music premiered at the
International Sofia Film Festival in 2009 and took part in a number of
festivals and markets. Zift by director Javor Gardev was Ilian
Djevelekov's first film as producer of full-length features. The film
received Silver St. George award for best director at the Moscow IFF
2008. It was acclaimed at festivals such as Toronto, Melbourne, Mar del
Plata, Istanbul, etc. and was sold in Europe and in the US to IFC
Films. In Bulgaria it was the most successful domestic release for the
past 20 years.
Ilian's first feature film as director - LOVE.NET was
released in Bulgarian theatres in 2011 and became number one box office
hit for the year. Ilian is also producer and co-writer of the film.
LOVE.NET ranked in the top 10 domestic hits of all time and was
selected in competition at Bratislava film festival and the Bahamas
film festival among others. In 2011 Ilian received the Best Director
award from the Bulgarian Film Academy.
Ilian's second feature film, Omnipresent, was released successfully in Bulgaria in October 2017 . It won Golden Rose Award for Best Picture at the Bulgarian Feature Film Festival along with four other major awards.
Currently he is developing a new film project.
