Nithyasree Mahadevan (born Nithyasree Sivakumar on August 25, 1973 in Thiruvaiyaru, South India) was born to Lalitha Sivakumar and I. Sivakumar, eminent Carnatic stage and studio recording musicians. She first learned music from her mother, and gave her first public concert aged 14 for the Youth Association of Classical Music, on her way to becoming a prolific musician, composer and playback singer for film and television scores and songs. Nithyasree is the grand daughter of D. K. Pattammal and Palghat Mani Iyer and grand niece of D. K. Jayaraman. Based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in South India, Mahadevan has released over 500 albums and soundtraacks in many Indian languages and film industries, receiving awards and honors as a radio, film, television and stage artiste.
Nithyasree is a "Top Rank" graded artist of Indian radio station Akashvani and the national level 1990 First Prize All India Radio winner. She won the 1998 Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Kannodu Kanbathellaam" from the film Jeans, and is known for her work on Padayappa (1999), Sangamam (1999), Paarthale Paravasam (2001), Ananda Thandavam (2009) and Arike (2012). She is the recipient of the title "Kalaimamani".
