Genki Kawamura is a director, screenwriter, producer and author. He is producing for Paramount Studios alongside JJ Abrams, the Hollywood live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's "your name." with Eric Heisserer ("Arrival") as a screenwriter and Carlos López Estrada ("Raya and the Last Dragon") as director. His debut novel, "If Cats Disappeared from the World" has been translated in 25 different countries with the English language version published from Picador for the UK and Flatiron for the US (both Macmillan imprint). The book has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. In 2018, Kawamura directed "Duality" which was selected by Cannes Film Festival for the short film competition category. He produced Mamoru Hosoda's "Mirai" which premiered at the Director's Fortnight, also at Cannes. The film has been nominated for the Oscars 2019 or the 91st Academy Awards® Animated Feature Film and has won the Best Animated Feature-Independent Award at the 46th Annie Awards. He also co-created with Hirokazu Koreeda "The Makanai", an upcoming Netflix original series scheduled to stream worldwide in 2023. His feature film directorial debut, "A Hundred Flowers", based on the novel he published in 2019, won Silver Shell for Best Director at the San Sebastian Film Festival. He produced Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Monster" which won the Best Screenplay and Queer Palme awards at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival.
